Part 1 – Won’t Do
[Verse 1]
See I’m just tryna be a better man
Tryna take a better stand and be the best that I can
So I try, with two broken wings
Wishin’ I could fly high to the sky
Understand it’s kinda strange cause everything change
It hurts to see my grandmother forgettin’ my name
She just smile, though her memory comes and it goes
Some days her grandson’s a stranger just shovel some snow
As she sit inside her home
Starin’ out of the window I’m wonderin’ what she seein’
A beauty of life that I’ll never know
Well, until I’m closer to leavin’
I can’t help but feel it ain’t fair
I gotta tell you who I am all over again
Hope you never forget how much I love you
You was takin’ care of me but look I’m takin’ care of you
Now ain’t a thing I won’t do
[Hook]
See ain’t a thing I won’t do
See ain’t a thing I won’t do, for you
See ain’t a thing I won’t do
See ain’t a thing I won’t do, for you
[Verse 2]
My cousin [Leesey?] lost her best friend
And they was so close, it hurts to see him that far away
My dad just lost his older brother
And ain’t enough words in this world that can numb the pain
I miss my uncle every day, fightin’ tears when his name brought up
So now my aunt lost her husband, my cousins lost their father
And some nights it get so [?] that it’s hard to go to asleep
See the obituary but it still ain’t real to me
But life is but a dream, life is for the livin’
I know time is money so I’m careful how I spend it
Uncle Ted I wanna thank you for everything that you did
Takin’ time to raise me like I’m one of your kids
What I’d give to hear your voice again
Give up everything I own to hear your voice again
Sometimes I feel like you’re smilin’ when the sun shinin’ down on me
And I hope you’re still proud of me, proud of me
[Hook]
Part 2 – My Uncle’s Words
[Spoken]
... about being rich. You see I woulda been an entertainer by now
I’m an educator. Don’t get me wrong, it was good being an educator
But the only problem is they don’t pay much
Oh man, they don’t pay much at all, so see
But the deal is, I’m blessed to have wonderful son and daughter
And my son wants to be a journalist
He said dad “I wanna write”
I said “what, letters and such?”
Tell me “no, books”
He’ll be goin’ ‘round and like see I’m tryna make sure he understands the black [space?]
See that’s important
You see, cause you can’t know where you goin ‘less you know where you comin’ from
Those that have been in this situation long enough to realize
Don’t get fooled by the things that they try to pull over your eyes
See it’s a changed situation
See we used to be a proud race, still is in some cases
But now we have uh, how I wanna put it
Allowed them to encroach some of our own beliefs
You know and the power of white America do what they always been tryin’ to change
Try to cover up and try to hide it
But the bottom line is that you can’t hide the truth
There’s no separation with the truth, it either is, or it isn’t
I mean not encouraging enough of my people to read
Chance to see what they, they prefer to give them [?] books
Even at schools, they done create all these different things that supposed to help them
But instead of them givin’ them complete instruction
They only give them just “oh, go sit down”
And they just, they don’t say “go sit down and read”
They don’t say “go to the room and sit down and work out your math”
You see and then all a sudden, their support for the family will be, um
See you mentioned bout me here with my son
You say, why would I let him walk out here alone?
