[Verse 1]
Somebody's been going through my things
Keys are on the kitchen table, usually keep them in my nightstand
Maybe I've just had too much to drink
Lately, I feel so unstable
All my friends say "You alright, man?"

[Pre-Chorus]
Closing the doors, checking the locks
Look out the window
Lay on the floor, calling the cops
When I hear the wind blow

[Chorus]
When they kicked open the door I was hiding
And I came out with my hands in the air
I said, "Officer, someone's inside"
And when he turned on the light
It was just me standing there in the mirror
Guess I'm a stranger to myself, mmm
Guess I'm a stranger to myself, mmm

[Verse 2]
Lonely conversations, tryna get to know the face that's staring back at me
He almost feels familiar
And just when I thought I knew him
He disappeared from view and
I'm afraid that I might be here with a killer

[Pre-Chorus]
Closing the doors, checking the locks
Look out the window
Lay on the floor, calling the cops
When I hear the wind blow

[Chorus]
When they kicked open the door I was hiding
And I came out with my hands in the air
I said, "Officer, someone's inside"
And when he turned on the light
It was just me standing there in the mirror
Guess I'm a stranger to myself, mmm
Guess I'm a stranger to myself, mmm

Alec Benjamin

After getting dropped by Columbia Records at 18 years old, singer-songwriter Alec Benjamin built a following by playing in parking lots outside of Shawn Mendes and Troye Sivan concerts. The Phoenix, Arizona native caught the attention of Jon Bellion, earning a songwriting credit on Bellion’s debut album and later joined him on tour.

To build on the momentum, Benjamin began uploading new songs to his YouTube channel at a rapid clip and eventually earned on a viral hit with “I Built a Friend” and a deal with Atlantic Records.

Benjamin connects to listeners by incorporating using his life struggles to tell stories and give meaning to his songs. You can see this in “Let Me Down Slowly,” “Paper Crown,” “I Built a Friend,” “Death of a Hero,” and “If We Have Each Other.”
