[Verse 1]
Led out on a leash behind you, holding ground
And I don't need no reminding, I've been around
Been around, yeah, I am a sound, yeah

[Verse 2]
Lie down with your peace where you find it
Won't come cheap
Fill up on love when you're hungry, tired then sleep
Have your dreams

[Chorus]
Don't let it wind you, let it bring you down
I hate to tell you how little I have found

[Refrain]
They paved the road with fool's gold

[Bridge]
And you're gonna fall out
You're gonna break down, choke and cry
Waiting out the storm when there ain't no place to hide
And you're gonna fall out
You're gonna break down, choke and cry
Waiting out the storm 'til the skies are clear to fly

[Instrumental]

[Bridge]
And you're gonna fall out
You're gonna break down, choke and cry
Waiting out the storm 'til the skies are clear to fly

[Verse 3]
Follow where it leads, your heart will know what's true
Don't be blinded by shiny pretty things well past due
It's on you, yeah, it's on you, yeah

[Chorus]
Don't let it wind you, let it bring you down
I hate to tell you how little I have found

[Bridge]
And you're gonna fall out
You're gonna break down, choke and cry
Waiting out the storm when there ain't no place to hide
And you're gonna fall out
You're gonna break down, choke and cry
Waiting out the storm 'til the skies are clear to fly

[Refrain]
They paved the road with fool's gold
They paved the road with fool's gold

Alice in Chains

Alice in Chains are a Seattle-based rock band. They rose to international fame in the early 1990s as part of the ‘grunge’ movement. They are one of the most critically and commercially acclaimed acts of the 90s. Their first 3 studio albums all went multi-platinum and they have received 8 Grammy nominations for Best Hard Rock performance (sadly, never winning once).

Their unique sound comes from the harmonized vocals of co-founders Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell, as showcased in some of their biggest songs like “No Excuses” from Jar of Flies, “Angry Chair” from Dirt and “Again” from the self-titled album. Cantrell also serves as the primary songwriter and guitarist of the band.

The band was never restricted to grunge. Cantrell believes it to be heavy metal; and indeed a lot of modern heavy metal bands cite Alice in Chains as an influence, including Metallica for Death Magnetic.
