[Verse 1]
Hearts which beat to a precise beat
Painting shadows on the wall
We'll cut out cars
Drive out bars
All for one, one for all
Like teenage sleaze
And comic book cheese
With your heart on your sleeve
Well, you know you won't run
You won't hide
And you jump like a son of a gun
Ow!

[Chorus]
Do not stand in the shadow
Do not stand in the shadow
Do not stand in the shadow, oh oh
Do not stand in the shadow

[Verse 2]
Oh lonely
Oh lonely
Watching people on my wall
Well my Mama and Dadda thought they had me fooled
I was thinking, not at all
Well, I got out
Not gonna stand
In the dark without a light
Forget ill luck
If you believe that chance can sit and wait
Wow!

[Chorus]
Do not stand in the shadow
Do not stand in the shadow
Dark even in the shadow[?], oh oh
Do not stand in the shadow
Do not stand in the shadow, oh oh
Do not stand in the shadow
Do not stand in the shadow, oh oh oh
Oh oh
Rowarh!

[Guitar solo]

[Verse 3]
And now we've touched down
Moving all around
Yeah, living to a blaster sound
No preachers, teachers freak out man
To the sound of false alarm
They ain't here today
Let me hear you say
You're alive and you're living with me
So, don't try to hide
Don't try to die
In the dark of the night
Wow!

[Chorus]
Do not stand in the shadow
Do not stand in the shadow
Do not stand in the shadow, oh oh
Do not stand in the shadow
Do not stand in the shadow
Do not stand in the shadow
In the shadow
In the shadow
Do not stand in the shadow

Billy Idol

Billy Idol is an English rock musician, songwriter and actor. Born in Stanmore, Middlesex, Idol first achieved fame in the punk rock era as a member of the band Generation X. Unlike other British punk rock artists of his era, Idol was inspired by The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.

Idol then embarked on a successful solo career, and was a member of the MTV-driven “Second British Invasion” of the United States. A series of music videos for songs such as “Dancing With Myself”, “White Wedding”, “Rebel Yell” and “Eyes Without a Face” made him one of the first MTV stars. Idol continues to tour with guitarist Steve Stevens.

Idol’s 1987 release, “Mony Mony” reached #1 on the US top 40 charts; his songs to chart in the top 10 include: White Wedding, Eyes Without a Face, To Be a Lover and Cradle of Love.
