[Verse 1]
The fireman's talkin' like heroes do
You best start listenin' when he gets to you
The ice is meltin', the seas are high
The smoke keeps risin' and there's no more time
You know you're out of time

[Verse 2]
There's no more hidin' the truth away
A change is comin', it's on the way
It won't be sudden, it might take years
It might take decades but it will get here
You know it will get here
You know it will get here

[Bridge]
You will feel it right outside your door
You won't be denyin' any more
Livin' in Orlando by the sea
Where will all your magic be?
Right where it should be

[Verse 3]
The fireman's talkin', his words are clear
It might take decades but it will get here
There's no more hidin' the truth away
The fireman's talkin', it's on the way
It's on the way

As a locally successful Detroit-area artist, he performed and recorded as Bob Seger and the Last Heard and Bob Seger System throughout the 1960s. By the early 1970s, he had dropped the “System” from his recordings and continued to strive for broader success with various other bands. In 1973, he put together the Silver Bullet Band, with a group of Detroit-area musicians, with whom he became most successful on the national level with the album Live Bullet, recorded live with the Silver Bullet Band in 1975 at Cobo Hall in Detroit, Michigan. On his studio albums, he also worked extensively with the Alabama-based Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section, which appeared on several of Seger’s best-selling singles and albums.

In 1976, he achieved a national breakout with the studio album Night Moves. The Night Moves title track became his first Billboard Top 5 single and the album started a string six consecutive albums landing in the Billbaord Top 10. The 1980 album, Against the Wind, topped the charts.
