[Verse 1 - Maxee]
Boy I thought that I was trippin' when I asked you to stay
But now I know I was just crazy to let you treat me that way
I put you first in my life, you brought the worst to my life
And I'm tired of playing games with you just like a child
You had every opportunity to give me your smile
I can't do this no more
And how you broke me before
I just can't be around you and let you hurt me anymore

[Chorus]
Every time I'm around you I let down my guard
So when I come around you I cover my heart
If I let you in again you'd only tear me apart
I don't want to do it again, I don't want to love you again
Can't be around you (Around you, around you)

[Verse 2 - Nicci & Maxee]
How can I consider taking you back again?
I trusted you and I'm bitter, I loved you more than I can
I put you first in my life, you brought the worst to my life
And I'm tired of laying alone wondering will he call home or come
And you'd apologize and make it seem alright
When you're not sorry at all
I can't see you no more, already tried that before
I just can't be around you, boy I'm closing the door

[Chorus]
Every time I'm around you I let down my guard
So when I come around you I cover my heart
If I let you in again you'd only tear me apart
I don't want to do it again, I don't want to love you again
Can't be around you (Around you, around you)

[Bridge - Nicci]
Anything you needed I was there for you
There was nothing I would not do
How could you leave me standing all alone?
Knowing I could not do this on my own
I can't do this no more, how you broke me before
I just can't be around you and let you hurt me anymore
Every time

[Chorus]
Every time I'm around you, I let down my guard
So when I come around you, I cover my heart
If I let you in again you'd only tear my heart apart
I don't want to do it again, I don't want to love you again
Oh no can't be around you, around you, around you

Brownstone

Brownstone is an female R&B trio that came to fame in the mid-90’s. The original members of the group were Nicci Gilbert, Monica “Mimi” Doby, and Charmayne “Maxee” Maxwell.

They released their debut album From The Bottom Up on Michael Jackson’s MJJ Music label. It featured the #1 R&B smash “If You Love Me”.

Before recording their second album Still Climbing, they replaced Monica “Mimi” Doby with Kina Cosper. The second album yielded a solid hit in “5 Miles To Empty”, but the group disbanded before a third album could materialize.
