Okay, "what happened when my dad got his finger cut off"
My dad didn't get his finger cut off, my dad cut off his own finger
Um, I wasn't there, but he was in Michigan with my two younger sisters chopping wood for his wood furnace that he installed last winter
And he had repositioned the log or so he told me, he kept it still with his left hand, the axe was in his right hand, he came down to chop the log in half
It missed, and chopped the top third of his left index finger
He then proceeded to scream and alert my younger sister, one of whom was on the phone and who rushed over, started screaming when she saw the blood and all the rest of that
And so then they all got in the car, and drove to the emergency room together
My dad drove my sisters (12 and 10 respectively) [who] rode there crying, and he held the top of his finger on with a paper towel as they drove to the emergency room
He then got there and the doctor tried to re-attach the finger and my little sisters were still sitting there screaming, who had then called my mother
My mother was 4 hours away in Chicago, and she called me
I was with my friend and he and I were deciding how to go to a suburb to rescue his mom
Rescue, I say, because she locked her keys in the car
So my grandma was coming to pick us up to take the three of us to save the parent who hadn't cut the finger off
And my mother said that she had to leave for Michigan to pick up my sisters, who were still with my dad in the emergency room
So my dad proceeded to have emergency like, kind of surgery, but not exactly
And um-- have I told you this story before? I told you this before, haven't I?
[mcDJ]
Yeah
[Becca]
Have I? Okay, good, just checking
Okay so, my dad was--he had taken painkillers so he was kind of numb
But after my aunt and my cousin had come to pick up my sisters and brought them to my mom–cause my parents are no longer on speaking terms, which is why she didn't go all the way to the hospital
So she picked them up from midway, and then drove them all the way back to the city
And my dad, though he was looped up on Vicodin, held his finger on again as he drove the 4 hours back to Chicago all by himself
And now 6 months later, it's still healing
The bone hasn't grown back, it's like chopped in 3 fingers at the end of it
But the two of us with the car and the mother who hadn't chopped her finger off were just fine
And we just picked her up from the Starbucks
And brought her the keys
And then left
And went shopping or something
