It went, honey, check it out, she had me mesmerized
With them nice braids and them nice ol' thighs
Street poetry, that's my everyday
I come to North Sea, yo, on a Sunday
So I could say what I can, I ain't in the fog
I come to rock it when I come to Den Haag
And you should understand why I came to slam
Earlier today I was in Amsterdam
And later on tonight I'ma be rockin' a party
And this is what I do, Com Sense speak godly
Somebody out there, yo, they chillin' in the lobby
They about to come in, they heart 'riem drummin'
We strummin' 'em in with the music
People wanna use it, don't confuse it, this ain't for amusement
This is for learnin' and burnin' your soul
Turnin' the whole road down
Constants, yo, I hold down
My soul's around for people that need to touch it
Understand Com Sense, I love it when I'm rugged
And sometimes I get a little softer
Never been soft, I'm killin' them, I fill 'em, put in a coffin
If I need to, this is what I do, I make it bleed through
The whole situation, anticipation
Of an album that's coming, it's called Finding Forever
And what'll happen when I put my mind together
With that, me and my brother named Ye and Jay Dee
And plus the 'riem baking is why MC
It be the type of brothers that come down with real sound
That's what I've been doing 'cause I hold my ill ground
And I could tell you, yo, Com been on a mission
Lookin' in the front row and I seen this couple kissin'
And I knew it was all love when I came in the place
I used to have my man Arthur on the bass
Maybe he'll come back soon, still I just rap tunes
Rap tunes and do what I can, I'm like Black Moon
How many emcees must get dissed
Before somebody says "Don't fuck with Sense"?
And this is just one style, yo, money
You should understand on the 1 and 2's is Dummy
And my nose is runny 'cause I'm cold like that
You should understand in my throat I hold my raps
And when I spit 'em, I could understand you's a victim
To go against it, yo, you get missed with
The brother Common Sense, yo, check it out, I invented
A different type of style and I stayed centered
In this down place where I could often MC
Rockin' to the face of the what, the North Sea
And yesterday, they say you hot as a stove
Yo, they said yesterday my man was Roy Hargrove
And he was playing, this is what I'm doing in the place
The brother Common Sense coming straight from his face
And this is what I do, yo, I could kick a beat again
I'll get on the keys like my name was Oscar Peterson
But no, that ain't me
My name is Rashid, and I could still get on the 88 keys
Or Fender Rhodes and I'll kick some soul
It's the brother Com Sense...*plays keys*
Tryna find a note but I'm fucked up
'Cause yo, I was chillin' for a second bein' dope
And you should know my rhymes'll float
My mind afloat, and this is what I do to provoke
A crowd, Com Sense, yo, I love to freestyle
Get loud, and I'm from the place called Stony Isle
Right in front of the cameras, Derek is the manager
I've never been an amateur, I slam at ya
If I have to, yo, record this
Common Sense, check it out, girls say I'm gorgeous
Nah, that ain't the word for it, they say I'm a real nigga
If this was slavery days, I'd be a field nigga
Or credit, yet a King, Com Sense kick a dream
Like Martin Luther, rest in peace to Luther
I be the trooper from the city of the Chi
And lookin', yo, I'm ready with my eye and I'm ready with the fly
I'm fly like the zipper, yo, I be the microphone ripper
Back in the days, I acted in ways
Like a young B-boy, now I be that B-boy with an album named BE
Girls smile at me and say they like that song "Love" and the song called "The Light"
I do it right, hittin' ya on a Sunday night
Afternoon, Com Sense get in the tune
People, yo, you with the camera, you can zoom
In and see, how fresh I be
It be the Common Sense, used to drink Hennessy
Memories going down while I'm giving a pound
Com Sense coming from where, yo, the Chi-town
I ain't wanna stop, I love the real hip-hop
People say hip-hop changed when my shit dropped
And they said, "Aw man, your stuff, we love that rap shit"
They said, "Common, the album BE's a classic"
They gave me 5 Mics and 5 stars, I come do live bars
And understand why I'm live, gods
Know what time it is when I come up in the place
It's Common Sense coming straight from his face
And this is what I do for people in the North Sea Festival
Yo, I'm still staying on schedule
Got a show tonight at the Paradiso
And we gon' do what we can just to let loose flows go
I see my man in the crowd in amazement
This is what we do when you come to the basement
You get real placement of real hip-hop
Yo, it's like that, my shit don't stop
It's like that and you don't stop
Relax yourself girl, be so clear
Come on, relax yourself girl, be so clear
Come on, relax yourself girl, be so clear
Relax yourself girl, be so clear
Relax yourself girl, be so clear
Come on, relax yourself girl, be so clear
Come on, relax yourself girl, be so clear
Come on, relax yourself girl, be so clear
We go, relax yourself girl, be so clear
It go, relax yourself girl, be so clear
Relax yourself girl, be so clear
Relax yourself girl, be so clear

Common

Lonnie Rashid Lynn, Jr. (born March 13, 1972), better known by his stage name Common (previously Common Sense), is a Grammy and Oscar-winning rapper and actor from Chicago, Illinois. Common’s inspired mix of poetic flow and hip-hop soul has helped him earn his status as one of the most respected rappers in the game.

After being a ball boy for his hometown Chicago Bulls as a teen and attending Florida A&M University for business administration, Common Sense kicked in and he left school to become a rapper. He gained national attention after being featured in the Unsigned Hype column of The Source magazine in 1991. He released his debut album Can I Borrow a Dollar? through Relativity Records in 1992, followed by his breakthrough second album Resurrection in 1994, which features his hip-hop classic single “I Used To Love H.E.R.”

As his career began to take off, he was sued by the music group Common Sense over the name, leading Common to drop the “Sense” and allude to the change in the title of his third album, One Day It’ll All Make Sense (1997). He has released several critically acclaimed albums, including Like Water For Chocolate (2000), which features his J Dilla-produced hit single “The Light”, and Be (2005), which was released under fellow Chicago musician Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music imprint. He also joined musicians Karriem Riggins and Robert Glasper to form the group August Greene, and the trio released their self-titled album in 2018.
