[Chorus: Dave Gahan]
I, I will be king
And you, you will be my queen
Nothing keep us together
We can beat them just for one day
We can be heroes just for one day

[Verse 1: Dave Gahan]
And you, you can be mean
And I, I'll drink all the time
'Cause we're lovers, and that is a fact
Yes, we're lovers, and that is that

[Refrain 1: Dave Gahan]
Though nothing keep us together
We can beat them just for one day
We can be heroes forever and ever
What d'you say?
"Hey!"

[Verse 2: Dave Gahan]
And I, I wish you could swim
Like the dolphins, likе dolphins can swim

[Refrain 2: Dave Gahan]
And nothing, will drive them away
We can bеat them just for one day
Oh, we can be heroes just for one day

[Chorus: Dave Gahan]
I, I will be king
And you will be queen
Nothing will keep us together
We can be heroes, just for one day
Oh, we can be us just for one day

[Verse 3: Dave Gahan, (Martin L. Gore)]
I, I can remember (I remember)
Standing by the wall (By the wall)
And the guns shot above our heads (Over our heads)
And we kissed as though nothing could fall (Nothing could fall)

[Refrain 3: Dave Gahan]
And the shame was on the other side
Oh, we can beat them just for one day
Then we could be heroes just for one day

[Bridge: Dave Gahan]
We can be heroes just for one day
We can be heroes

[Refrain 4: Dave Gahan]
No, nothing, will keep us together
Maybe we're lying, then you better not stay
We can be heroes just for one day "Alright, Martin!"

[Coda: Dave Gahan, (Martin L. Gore)]
(Oh-oh-oh-oh) We can be heroes
(Oh-oh-oh-oh) Just for one day
(Oh-oh-oh-oh) Just for one day

[Outro: Dave Gahan]
"That one's for David."

Depeche Mode

Depeche Mode are recognized as one of the most artistically influential bands of the late 20th century. Commercially, they have released 14 studio albums to date, and sold more than 100 million records. Their most recent album, Spirit, hit the streets in March 2017.

The band got their start in Basildon, Essex in 1980, and named themselves after a French fashion magazine. They rose to fame with hits that have become “Just Can’t Get Enough” (1981), “Everything Counts” (1983), and “People Are People” (1984), to name a few. One of their most famous concerts was at the Pasadena Rose Bowl in 1988.

Martin Gore has been the band’s primary songwriter since Vince Clarke left in the early 1980s (and went on to form Yazoo and Erasure). Alan Wilder replaced Clarke on keyboards in 1982, but left in 1995 (reinvesting his creative energy in his band, Recoil, which he had started in 1986). Since then, the band has comprised frontman Dave Gahan, multi-instrumentalist Martin Gore, and keyboardist Andy Fletcher—all of whom are original members.
