[Intro: En Vogue]
I believe in yesterday
I believe in yesterday

[Spoken Interlude: En Vogue]
What's the problem?
You keep comin' in and keep comin' out and singin' flat
I'm sorry, I'm sorry
What's wrong? What's wrong?
You're not concentrating
Yes, I am concentrating
No, you're not
I'm sorry, let's just do it again
No no no, uh uh - what's the problem?
There's no problem
Dawn, what's wrong?
There's nothing wrong, Terry
Kevin
Mhm
Please don't tell me it's Kevin
Mhm
Ew, Kevin Swahili, I knew it! He's got cooties
And he's seeing Tamika right now
And everybody else
He is not seeing Raneka
He is
How you know?
Wait a minute you guys
Wait wait wait. You guys, we should not attack her
It sounds like it's serious because we can't concentrate and get this right
So, let's deal with the problem
You see, I've been through this myself, and, let's talk
And it goes a little something like this - hit it
Mmm...

[Verse 1: Maxine Jones + (En Vogue)]
Baby girl (Unfair but true)
Can love him once but not twice
Who plays games with no rules (A fool)
Tears for fears (Are no surprise)
Happens almost every time
Love knocks you on your behind
(Loved you hard, loved you long, now his love is gone)
Love 'em and leave 'em (Is the rule of most dogs)
You must be strong
Stand up on your own
Take control of your life

[Pre-Chorus: Maxine]
I've seen it time and time again
It's not worth it, no
Don't be down and miserable
You and only you
Can bring yourself around

[Chorus: En Vogue + Maxine]
Give it up, turn it loose
Oh, if he don't want ya, you don't need 'em, girl, yeah
Give it up, turn it loose
Oh, yeah

[Verse 2: Maxine + (En Vogue)]
Fact of life (So sad but true)
Love can often hurt you
Leaving scars most of your life (Nightmares can haunt you)
But fairytales of love can come true
Both play tricks on your mind
(You'll be fine, take this time to find piece of mind)
Sooner or later (Bad feelings will die)
You must be strong
Don't blame it all on love
In time good things will come

[Pre-Chorus: Maxine]
I've seen it time and time again
It's not worth it, no no
Don't be down and miserable
You and only you
Can bring yourself around

[Chorus: En Vogue + Maxine]
Give it up, turn it loose
Oh, if he don't want ya, you don't need 'em, girl... yeah
Give it up, turn it loose
Oh, yeah

[Outro: Maxine + (En Vogue)]
(Give it up) Give it up, oh
(Give up) Give it up
(Give up) Give it up
(Give it up, turn it loose) Turnin' it loose, baby
(Give up) Give it up
(Give up) Give it up
(Give it up, turn it loose) Turnin' it loose, baby
(Give up) Give it, give it, give it, give it
(Give up) Give it, give it, give it, give it
(Give it up, turn it loose) And turn it loose
(Give up) Hey
(Give up) Turn it loose
(Give it up, turn it loose)

En Vogue

Cindy Herron, Terry Ellis, Maxine Jones, and Dawn Robinson are the original members of the R&B girl group En Vogue. The group was put together by producers Thomas McElroy and Denzil Foster after a talent search in Oakland, California in 1989. Their debut album Born to Sing was released in 1990 and featured the #1 R&B hits “You Don’t Have To Worry,” “Lies,” and their platinum debut single “Hold On,” which also peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and won a Billboard and Soul Train Music Award. Their 1992 follow-up album Funky Divas hit #1 on the Billboard R&B Albums chart and peaked at #8 on the Billboard 200 on its way to triple platinum status. The lead single, “My Lovin' (You’re Never Gonna Get It),” helped propel that success as it hit #1 on the Billboard R&B Singles chart and #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album also featured the #1 R&B hit cover of Aretha Franklin’s “Giving Him Something He Can Feel” as well as the Top 10 pop single “Free Your Mind.”

In 1993, they released the EP Runaway Love and made appearances on the TV shows In Living Color, Roc and A Different World. In 1994, they collaborated with Salt-N-Pepa on their Top 3 platinum single “Whatta Man” and in 1996 they contributed to the Set It Off soundtrack with their hit single “Don’t Let Go (Love)” which peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and hit #1 on the R&B Singles chart.

While working on their third album, Dawn Robinson decided to leave the group due to issues with management. The group decided to go on as a trio and released their third platinum album EV3 in 1997 featuring the Top 10 R&B/Top 20 pop hit “Whatever,” which was produced and co-written by Babyface. They went on to release three more albums—Masterpiece Theatre in 2000, The Gift of Christmas in 2002, and Soul Flower in 2004. During that time, Maxine Jones left the group in 2001 and was replaced by Amanda Cole, and Cole was later replaced in 2003 by Rhona Bennett. While the original four members have reunited for performances throughout the years, the current lineup consists of Herron, Ellis, and Bennett, and they released the single “Déjà Vu” in 2016 and released their album Electric Café in 2018.
