Songwriter: George Kooymans Barry Hay

Turned down all the others
Shut down all you mere
Escapin’ from the office
Preserve energy
So long, go to hell
May life treat you well
You might find the answers
Might she cross the road yea
Keep on, drink your coffee
Smokin’ cigarettes
Kissin’ the cocaine reckless
From dawn ‘til sunset
If a darker room can’t find here
Spotlights surely will
Hangin’ on to familiar
Searchin’ for the Holy Grail
Farewell to you, neighbors
Make life ring a bell
Least of your big problem
My sweet cross to forfeit

You are not goin’ to see
On the avenue of broken dreams
Inner ways like road of sins
On the avenue of broken dreams

Bring down that monkey wrench
On a tiger spotted chair
High in efficiency
Snub nose, cutting edge
Feud up that fancy clock
There ain’t no time to waste
On your way to Zanzibar
My sweet, cross to forfeit

You are not goin’ to see
On the avenue of broken dreams
Inner ways like road of sins
On the avenue of broken dreams
Broken dreams

Come on, let’s go shopping
Before it’s too late
Before day come knockin’
Down the garden gate
Farewell to you never
May life treat you well
You might find the answers
My sweet, cross to forfeit
My sweet, cross to forfeit

You are not goin’ to see
On the avenue of broken dreams
You are not goin’ to see
On the avenue of broken dreams
Broken dreams
Broken dreams
