[Verse 1]
Way down a dark alleyway
And somewhere in the Garden State
A girl from California waits
She has my name but not my face

[Pre-Chorus]
And I, tried to let her be someone
Hoping when the morning comes
She's not another hit and run that everybody knows

[Chorus]
The people disappear here, ah
People disappear here, ah
People disappear here, ah
People disappear hеre, ah

[Verse 2]
So let's say for goodness sakе
That she cleans it up and finds her way
But a child can't affect her fate
And you pay, and you pay, and you pay

[Pre-Chorus]
And now, maybe if you see someone
Hoping when the evening comes
You're not another hit and run that everybody knows

[Chorus]
The people disappear here, ah
People disappear here, ah
People disappear here, ah
People disappear here, ah

[Bridge]
I hurt myself to make sure I exist
I pinch myself to make sure that I'm real
I hurt myself to make sure I exist
I need someone to tell me how I feel

[Chorus]
'Cause people disappear here, ah
People disappear here, ah
People disappear here, ah

[Outro]
(People disappear here
People disappear here
People disappear here
People disappear here
People disappear here)

Halsey

Halsey is the stage name of New Jersey singer Ashley Nicolette Frangipane. It is an anagram of her first name and reference to the Halsey Street subway stop and street in Brooklyn where she used to live. The bio on her website

I am Halsey. I will never be anything but honest. I write songs about sex and being sad."

Halsey was diagnosed with bipolar disorder when she was 17. This has greatly influenced her creative process from the start of her career. Songs like “Control” and “Gasoline” explicitly delve into her psychological and emotional battles. Manic, Halsey’s third album and arguably her rawest and most emotionally vulnerable, was written in a fully manic state rather than a depressive one.
