[Verse 1: John Legend]
It gets harder everyday
But I can't seem to shake the pain
I'm trying to find the words to say, please stay
It's written all over my face
That I can't function the same when you're not here
Calling your name and no one's there

[Pre-Chorus]
And I hope one day you'll see nobody has it easy
I still can't believe you've found somebody new
But I wish you the best, I guess

[Chorus: John Legend]
Cause everybody knows, that nobody really knows
How to make it work, or how to ease the hurt
We've heard it all before
That everybody knows just how to make it right
I wish we gave it one more try
One more try, One more try, One more try
Cause everybody knows, but nobody really knows

[Verse 2: John Legend]
I don't care what people say
They're probably lonely anyway
Baby don't fill up your head with he-said, she-said
It seems like you just don't know. (Don't know)
The radio's on, you're tuning me out
I'm trying to speak, you're turning me down

[Pre-Chorus]
And I know one day you'll see nobody has it easy
I still can't believe you've found somebody new
But I wish you the best, I guess

[Chorus: John Legend]
Cause everybody knows, that nobody really knows
How to make it work, or how to ease the hurt
We've heard it all before
That everybody knows just how to make it right
I wish we gave it one more try
One more try, One more try, One more try
Cause everybody knows, but nobody really knows

[Bridge: John Legend]
Oh I wish you would understand
Just an ordinary man
I wish that we have known
That everybody knows, that nobody really knows

[Pre-Chorus]
And I know one day you'll see nobody has it easy
I still can't believe you've found somebody new
But I wish you the best, I guess

[Chorus: John Legend]
Cause everybody knows, that nobody really knows
How to make it work, or how to ease the hurt
We've heard it all before
That everybody knows just how to make it right
I wish we gave it one more try
One more try, One more try, One more try
Cause everybody knows, but nobody really knows

John Legend

John Legend was born in 1978 in Ohio. He became an in-demand session musician and songwriter, working with such artists as Alicia Keys, Twista and Janet Jackson. He was soon introduced to up-and-coming hip-hop artist Kanye West, and the two musicians collaborated on one another’s demos.

J. Ivy claims credit for bestowing the “Legend” moniker upon John Stephens (with an assist from Kanye West). Via

Kanye was like, ‘Have you heard of this singer called John Stephens?’ He played me this song from him, that I think will.i.am produced. It was so refreshing and soulful. An hour later, John Stephens comes into the studio. I told him, ‘I heard your music. It’s so amazing. It sounds old school. Man, you sound like one of the legends. You’re a legend. Matter of fact, that’s what I am going to call you from now The Legend. A couple days later, we were in the lounge of the studio (Record Plant) and John Stephens walks in and everyone shouts him out. I was like, ‘John Legend!’ Kanye then said, ‘You’re John Legend from now on. That’s your name!’”
