[Intro]
Uh, there, turn my mic on so I can hear me a lil' bit
Nonstop on life, gon' survive
It's in our plan to survive
Sunlight and love in the sunshine
Yeah, I plant the seed on the vine
We pray our family will survive
And grow to be strong in the sunshine
And grow to be strong in the sunshine
We give the love on the soil
Nothing there now can't be spoiled
Nothing of our sunshine
Now, we be getting a little sunshine
If my lovin', duh, nah, nah, no, no, no, no, nah
No, no, no, nuh, fah, nah, no, my, my, my, my

[Chorus]
We plant the thorns in the vine
We know we are all the vine
Now, all we need is sunshine
All we need is sunshine

[Verse 1]
See, I said "We plant the"—
We say "We plant the seed in the vine" because we are the vine
Not "de-vine", because that means void of the vine
We are the vine, we are the root

[Chorus]
We plant the seed in the vine
Now all we need is sunshine
We plant the seed in the vine
Now all we need, my
In the vine

[Verse 2]
As we had the seed, we put the stronger soil around us
To make sure that we would grow in the mind
Once we have the stronger soil with the most nutrients, all we need is a little sunshine
You know, some exposure, you don't need to keep your kids
We— we don't need to keep our kids closed in and indoors
We need that exposure, we need that sunshine
But as long as they have a planet with the best soil around them
And not to spoil around them, and not too all around them
I got somethin' bumpin' all around them, got the thump in, never round 'em
Watch the people that's around them, something's on, that's down
Another somethin' that could ground 'em, I didn't even know they got to fly us
Got some people that's gon' round 'em, I got something's on them, at 'em
And things they didn't allow, and that's just so they just cool us down
And then I know they stole 'em down, uh
Do you beat your kids?
Do you read to your kids?
Wanna be some kids?
Have you ever worked for somebody that ain't never wanna— wanna meet your kids?
That's definitely a job, yeah

[Chorus]
Plant, don't stop now in the vine
Now we need the sunshine
We plant the seed in the vine
All that we need is sunshine

[Verse 3]
How much energy we be putting into going to work?
How much energy we be putting into— or we gon' do this for our kids
But at that certain point, your kid don't want a bigger room
Your kid don't want a bigger house, they actually want the house smaller so they can be closer, to us

[Chorus]
We plant the seed in the vine
All we need is sunshine (Let me catch that, they say)
All that we need is sunshine (We don't say that, we say this, so like this, let 'em see)
All we need is sunshine (Simplify, simplify, simplify)
All—

[Verse 4]
See, God is the simplicity, the devil is in the details
How they send 'em, they see tales, somethin', somethin' on retails
Got them pumped on, Fidel, lock them, see mails on the e-mail
Got the green before they see Hell, goin' hard like a shemale
You know what I mean, get it? Goin' hard like a shemale? Shit

[Chorus]
In the vine (Hahaha)
This the, in the vine
All that we need is sunshine
All that we need is sunshine
All that we need is sunshine
All that we need is sunshine
We plant the seed in the vine
Now all that we need is some shine

[Verse 5]
You see, I said "now", uh, I'm used to that, we used to that, right?
But there is no past, no present, no future, so the word "now" doesn't actually exist
It's stuck between space and time, so we avoid those words
We just say "We plant the seed in the vine"
And then say "All we need is sunshine"
Not "now", we always need it, it's not, no, specifically not—
'Cause like if somebody say, "Oh, you look good today"
But what about yesterday? Like, what are you talking about?
"Oh, you look real nice today" (Nah, yeah)
There's only one day, by the way (All that we need)
So that's what we gon' do, we gon' take all the holidays and put 'em in one day
Christmas (Mm, mm, mm, mm)
The doors always open
So imagine this, I'ma give you the visual
When you wake up, every morning is Christmas
Every afternoon is Valentine's Day and then every night is New Year's Eve
Every morning is Christmas, every afternoon is Valentine's Day and every night is New Year's Eve
Every morning is Christmas, every afternoon is Valentine's Day and every night is New Year's Eve
Every morning is Christmas, mm
Every night, Valentine's Day, at night, it's New Year's
(First one got ahead so we gotta chop it up to get the best version, so just—)
Take all your favorite holidays
You know, I feel like in Martin Luther King Day, for his dream to really be alive
We have to not celebrate, because it what it does, 'cause it puts us—
We have to not celebrate the holiday because it, it puts us in the loop
Just keeps reminding us of the struggles, they start pulling up pictures of us getting hit by dogs and firehoses and all that
You know like, my daughter came home from school, and her mother said
"My daughter— our daughter came home from school"
And our companion said—
Because, just like, I was about to say like "our" and "my wife" and "her mother", and that, that separates us, so we should always be together somehow
So we just trying this out, this is just a lil' freestyle, you know?
The way we can speak to each other with non-violent communication
Also, it shouldn't be "non-violent" because we should say "non-more violent"
But both of those are negative, so how can we say that in a positive way?
You say, um, "healing communication", "sharing communication"
What's the opposite of separation? What would be a word that's the opposite of separation?
"Joining communication"?
"Joining communication"
"Our daughter arrived home"
Instead of saying "My kid came home from school"
You can't say "Kid, came, that, got"
You see, um, grandmothers tell you "Don't say got"
You know what I'm sayin'? What you got? Get it?

[Chorus]
That's the dirt in the vine
All we, that we have (So we don't need sunshine, how would I say I need it if I got it? You got sunshine, sunshine's for free)
In the vine (So we plant our seeds in the vine, right?)
We have sunshine (We just have it, we don't need it, we don't want it, we have sunshine, we have all we need)

[Verse 6]
So, so, our daughter arrived home
Her mother, I need to find a way to be able to say—
What is the way I would say "my wife", "her mother", at the same time?
One statement, so it's all become this sorts of joining, forming a communication
Do you know how to say that?
What's one word that will bond us together?
Yeah, "Our family discussed school"
You got that? I, I, I've been—
Becuase what she said, she said "Tell Daddy what you learned at school today"
But we would say "Our family discussed school"
Um, but not "discussed" because I don't like it to sound like "disgusting"
What's another way to say "discussed"?
I don't know if I love the word "about"
Our family... what?
"In quorum", what?
What's "quorum"?
Formed, "Our family formed"
Forumed, "Our family created a forum"
There you go
"Tell Daddy what you learned at school today"
And she said "I learned that I'm black and Mommy's white"
I'm like "Damn, I wish she had the heads up"
And, uh, my wife said "No, no, she learned that because it's Martin Luther King Day, and they had to tell her why we have the holiday"
So, a white woman let my daughter know that she has a separation inside of this country from her mother
In order to inform her of Martin Luther King holiday
Can we get— can we get him on mic too?
Can you get him on the club in the one where he's at?
Yeah, yeah, heheheheh, yeah, heheh
Can— can you go closer to 'Quence right now? Or, if— when you just get closer to him
Get real close to him so we get as much, yeah, yeah
Yeah
Yeah
Yeah, that's like if we had, uh, a holiday for couples that's like "Remember When You Cheated on Me Day"
Hahahahahaha, haha
And you bringin' those— start bringin' up the posts
"And 'member when I found your phone? And 'member what I was goin' through?"
Hahaha, we gon' have a "Remember When You Cheated on Me Day"
Mm, yeah, you— you gave that mic to 'Quence? Yeah

[Chorus]
Plant the seeds in the vine
Lovely, we have sunshine
We plant our seeds in the vine
Lucky we have sunshine (Lovely, not lucky)
We plant our seeds in the vine
Lovely, we have sunshine
We plant our seeds in the vine
Lovely, we have sunshine

[Outro]
Ice Cube wanted me to pass his— along, his new album for you to hear if you have time
Oh, most definitely
Plantin' our seeds in the vine
Alright, stop recording

Kanye West

The ubiquitous Kanye West—from his famous quip, “George Bush doesn’t care about black people,” to “I'ma let you finish,” to marrying Kim Kardashian, to announcing that he’s running for President, and admitting his love for President Trump—you can see that he’s a staple of the tabloids and the entertainment world, industry-wide.

That certainly doesn’t take anything away from his music; as a matter of fact, it only seems to add to his fortuitous career. For instance, his 2010 album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, was universally praised by fans and critics alike; it was recorded during the backlash he received from the Swift interruption and during his break-up with then-girlfriend Amber Rose.

He has scored other well-known hits, as well, from each of his previous studio albums—such as “Stronger,” “Heartless,” and “Gold Digger.” Each of his albums has been massive critical and commercial successes, including his collaboration album with JAY-Z, Watch the Throne. As of 2020, West has won an astounding 21 Grammys, tied with JAY-Z as the most decorated hip-hop artist in Grammy history.
