I stop for every traffic sign
Can't ever be too cautious
Always walking that straight line
Doing everything I ought to
Never knew what I was missing
'Til my heart started talking
And I started listening

Then I stepped right in it, just like that
Put my best foot forward and I never looked back
Good as gone, fit like a glove
I wasn't even looking for love
I just stepped right in it

Love ain't a matter of exact science
Can't predict where it's going
Sooner or later, you take a chance
And show that hand you're holding
Now don't be thinking about quitting the race
'Cause love takes time, love don't wait

Then I stepped right in it, just like that
Put my best foot forward and I never looked back
Good as gone, fit like a glove
I wasn't even looking for love
I just stepped right in it

Carnes' self-titled second album primarily contained self-penned songs, including her first charting single “You’re a Part of Me”, which reached No. 35 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart in 1975. In the following year, Carnes released Sailin', which featured “Love Comes from Unexpected Places”. The song won the American Song Festival and the award for Best Composition at the Tokyo Song Festival in 1976.
