[Intro]
They...

[Chorus 1]
There's a light that shines inside of me
That nobody can touch
No matter what they try to do
No matter what they try to say
So you keep that in mind
When people try to bring you down
Because they can't take it away from you

[Post-Chorus]
There's a light that shines inside of me
Shines so brightly
And they can try
So desperately
But they can't take that way from me

[Hook 1]
Can't take that away from me
Can't take that away from me
They can't take
They can't take
They can't take
They, they

[Verse 1]
They can say
Anything they want to say
They can do
Anything they want to do
To you

[Bridge 1]
They...

[Chorus 2]
There's a light in my that shines so brightly
They can try
But they can't take away from me
No...
Can't take that away, baby
They can do
What they wanna do
If you let them in
But they won't, they can't
If you cling to your pride
And just push them aside, see

[Hook 2]
Ain't never gonna take it away, no, no
Ain't never gonna take it away, no, no
Ain't never gonna take it away, no, no
Ain't never gonna take it away, no, no...

Ain't gonna take it away from me
Ain't gonna take it away from me
Ain't gonna take it away from me...

[Chorus 3]
They can't take that way from me
No...
They can't take this
Precious love I'll always have inside me
And certainly the Lord
Will guide me where I need to go

[Bridge 2]
(They...)
I won't be afraid no more
(They...)

[Hook 3]
Can't take that away from me
Can't take that away from me
They can't take
They can't take
They can't take, take, take

[Verse 3]
Oh, I won't be afraid no more
Their negative energy
Their negative energy
Said their negative energy
Is not gonna get to me
I'm not gonna let you get the best of me
I'm not gonna let you get the best of me
I'm not gonna let you get the best of me
I'm not gonna let you get the best of me

[Hook 4]
They can't take my love from me
They can't take my heart from me
They can't take my love from me
They can't take my love from me

[Chorus 4]
See there's a light
That shines brightly
So brightly, so brightly
They can't take that away from me

[Bridge 3]
Oh Lord, they do try (Lord they do try, Lord they do try)
Oh Lord, they do try (They can't take that away from me)

[Bridge 4]
My life, my love, my faith, my dreams, my soul, my heart, my life
My life, my love, my dreams, my faith, my dreams, my heart, my soul, my life

[Bridge 5]
They can't take that away from me
No, no, no, no, no
No, no, no, no, no

They...

[Outro]
Oh, you're never gonna take my pride
Never gonna take my pride
Never gonna take my heart
Never gonna take my soul
Never gonna get to me
Never gonna touch my heart
Never gonna take my pride
Oh...
You can say what you want, baby
Can't hold me down

Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey (born March 27, 1970) is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, actress, and philanthropist.

Under the guidance of Columbia Records executive Tommy Mottola, Carey released her self-titled debut studio album Mariah Carey in 1990; it went multi-platinum and spawned four consecutive number one singles on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Following her marriage to Mottola in 1993 and success with hit records “Emotions” (1991), “Music Box” (1993), and “Merry Christmas” (1994), Carey was established as Columbia’s highest-selling act. Daydream (1995) made music history when its second single “One Sweet Day”, a duet with Boyz II Men, spent a record sixteen weeks on top of the Billboard Hot 100, and remains the longest-running number-one song in U.S. chart history, along with Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito.” During the recording of the album, Carey began to deviate from her R&B and pop beginnings and slowly traversed into hip hop. This musical change became evident with the release of Butterfly (1997), at which time Carey had separated from Mottola.
