[Verse 1: Mariah Carey]
I shouldn't have walked away
I would've stayed if you said
We could've made everything OK (OK)
But we just threw the blame back and forth
We treated love like a sport
The final blow hit so low
I'm still on the ground

[Pre-Chorus: Mariah Carey]
I couldn't have prepared myself for this fall
Shattered in pieces, curled on the floor
Supernatural love conquers all
'Member we used to touch the sky

Baby
Mariah Carey, baby baby
?
Baby
I’m far from an angel
And you’re my angel, ain’t ya
I love your angel ass
I hate to see my angel cry
But sometimes I’m foolish
Do things that break your heart
Play with your mind and emotions
I know I’m a work of art
Sometimes I feel lonely and even helpless
But then I look in the mirror and see I’m just being selfish
I wanna protect you
I wanna love you
You’re my angel baby
There’s nothing above you

[Chorus: Mariah Carey]
And lightning don't strike the same place twice
When you and I said goodbye, I felt the angels cry
True love's a gift, we let it drift in a storm
Every night, I feel the angels cry
C'mon babe, can't our love be revived?
Bring it back and we gon' make it right
I'm on the edge just trying to survive
As the angels cry

[Verse 2: Ne-Yo]
I thought we'd be forever and always
You were serenity, you took away the bad days
Didn't always treat you right, but it was OK
I do somethin' stupid and you’d still stay with me
But you can only go for so long
Doing the one you claim to love wrong
Before too much is enough
You look up, find your love gone and

[Pre-Chorus: Ne-Yo]
We were so good together
How come we could not weather
This storm and just do better
Why did we say goodbye?

[Chorus: Ne-Yo & (Mariah Carey)]
'Cause lightning don't strike the same place twice
When you and I said goodbye, I felt the angels cry
True love's a gift, we let it drift in a storm
Every night, I feel the angels cry
(C'mon babe, can't our love be revived?)
(Bring it back and we gon' make it right)
(I'm on the edge just tryin' to survive)
(As the angels cry)

[Bridge: Mariah Carey & (Mariah Carey & Ne-Yo)]
Baby, I'm missing you
Don't allow our love to lose
We gotta ride it through
I'm reaching for you
And I'm gonna say
Baby, I'm missing' you (Baby I’m missing you)
Don't allow our love to lose
We gotta ride it through
I'm reaching for you
And I'm gonna say

[Chorus: Mariah Carey & Ne-Yo]
Lightning don't strike the same place twice
When you and I said goodbye, I felt the angels cry
'Cause true love's a gift, we let it drift in a storm
Every night, I feel the angels cry

[Outro: Mariah Carey]
Oh, babe, don't let angels cry

Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey (born March 27, 1970) is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, actress, and philanthropist.

Under the guidance of Columbia Records executive Tommy Mottola, Carey released her self-titled debut studio album Mariah Carey in 1990; it went multi-platinum and spawned four consecutive number one singles on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Following her marriage to Mottola in 1993 and success with hit records “Emotions” (1991), “Music Box” (1993), and “Merry Christmas” (1994), Carey was established as Columbia’s highest-selling act. Daydream (1995) made music history when its second single “One Sweet Day”, a duet with Boyz II Men, spent a record sixteen weeks on top of the Billboard Hot 100, and remains the longest-running number-one song in U.S. chart history, along with Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito.” During the recording of the album, Carey began to deviate from her R&B and pop beginnings and slowly traversed into hip hop. This musical change became evident with the release of Butterfly (1997), at which time Carey had separated from Mottola.
