Songwriter: Mariah Carey

[Verse 1]
One summer night
We ran away for a while
Laughing, we hurried beneath the sky
To an obscure place to hide
That no one could find

[Chorus]
And we drifted to another state of mind
And imagined I was yours and you were mine
As we lay upon the grass there in the dark
Underneath the stars (Young love, young love)
Underneath the stars (Young love, young love)

[Verse 2]
Weak in the knees
Wrapped in the warm gentle breezе
And I'm so shy (So shy)
A bundle of butterflies
Flushеd with the heat of desire
On a natural high

[Chorus]
As we drifted to another place in time
And the feeling was so heady and sublime
As I lost my heart to you there in the dark
Underneath the stars (Young love, young love)
(Young love, young love)

[Bridge]
Beautiful and bitter sweetly
You were fading into me
And I was gently fading into you
But the time went sailing by
Reluctantly we said good-bye
And left our secret place so far behind
And I lay in bed all night and I was drifting

[Chorus]
To another state of mind (Drifting, drifting, drifting)
And imagined I was yours and you were mine (My own, baby)
As we lay upon the grass there in the dark
Lay underneath the stars (Young love, young love)
Underneath the stars (Young love, young love)
Underneath the stars (Young love, young love)
Underneath the stars (Young love, young love)
Underneath the stars (Young love, young love)
I was drifting, drifting
Underneath the stars (Young love, young love)
(Young love, young love, young love, young love)
Underneath the stars, baby, baby

Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey (born March 27, 1970) is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, actress, and philanthropist.

Under the guidance of Columbia Records executive Tommy Mottola, Carey released her self-titled debut studio album Mariah Carey in 1990; it went multi-platinum and spawned four consecutive number one singles on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Following her marriage to Mottola in 1993 and success with hit records “Emotions” (1991), “Music Box” (1993), and “Merry Christmas” (1994), Carey was established as Columbia’s highest-selling act. Daydream (1995) made music history when its second single “One Sweet Day”, a duet with Boyz II Men, spent a record sixteen weeks on top of the Billboard Hot 100, and remains the longest-running number-one song in U.S. chart history, along with Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito.” During the recording of the album, Carey began to deviate from her R&B and pop beginnings and slowly traversed into hip hop. This musical change became evident with the release of Butterfly (1997), at which time Carey had separated from Mottola.
