[Verse 1: mxmtoon]
I had to go, I'm sorry
I hope you'll understand
That even though it's over
You know it's not the end
I couldn't be your half
Just forming out a whole
I can't complete you, baby
Find solace in your soul

[Pre-Chorus: mxmtoon]
And I hate to leave you feeling all alone
But your story can not start until you've grown
You can find how to be okay on your own
I just can't be the one that makes you feel at home

[Chorus: mxmtoon]
I need some time to myself
So I can comprehend
I'm not so scared to admit
I could use a friend
I need some time to myself
To gain some confidence
Another confidant
'Til I can fall again

[Verse 2: Carly Rae Jepsen]
Thought that I'd feel empty
I just want a hand to hold
But now that it's all over
My life isn't so cold
It wasn't meant to bе
Maybe we knew that from thе start
I can't complete you, baby
But I'll hold you in my heart

[Pre-Chorus: Carly Rae Jepsen]
And I hate to leave you feeling all alone
But your story can not start until you've grown
You can find how to be okay on your own
I just can't be the one that makes you feel at home

[Chorus: mxmtoon & Carly Rae Jepsen]
I need some time to myself
So I can comprehend
I'm not so scared to admit
I could use a friend (A friend, yeah)
I need some time to myself
To gain some confidence (Ooh)
Another confidant
'Til I can fall again

[Outro: Carly Rae Jepsen]
Ooh
I could use a friend
Maybe we knew that from the start
It wasn't meant to be
I could use a friend, a friend, yeah

mxmtoon

mxmtoon (pronounced em-ex-em-toon) is the moniker of Maia (born July 9, 2000), an Oakland-based singer, songwriter, and ukulele player. mxmtoon has a considerable online following, amounting to the hundreds of thousands, and successfully links conceptually relatable songs with goofy, self-deprecating music videos, of which evoke emotions across the gamut—everything from belly-laughing to weeping. She carries a persona that can be described as passionate, genuine, and warm; a friend who can be relied on through even the most emotionally challenging of times.

mxmtoon covers a wide range of conceptual themes in her music; such themes include matters regarding friendship, romance, body confidence, identity and teenage insecurities. She often uses a ukulele for accompaniment and has a distinctly unique musical sound characterized by elements of indie and bedroom pop, as well as slightly laconic lyrical delivery and sometimes unconventional melodic constructs. This style shined all throughout her debut EP plum blossom, which was recorded from the confines of her parents' guest room, and was released on December 7, 2018.

Nine months later, the Cavetown produced effort that was her debut full-length album the masquerade was released in September 17, 2019, followed by dawn and dusk in April 22, 2020 and October 1, 2020 respectively, with the latter two later being integrated into dawn & dusk, which was released on November 5, 2020.
