[Verse 1]
You gave with the hand that took from another
Don't need the leg down, like another
Promise was the promised land
Another habit with my legacy
Belongs to me
Pin ya to the bed did everything I said
Took me to the dead, look for solid land, hmmm

I bore my craft, found a way home
Look at me now, full speed Wikipedia
As fast as I catch you, you update me
Out-beat you like appear, I might cheat ya
Beat you up, business meet you
Creepin' up the med up the side of me head
Play dead, you raise the rent
Not my time
I play dead, you raise the rent
Not my time
Too fast, say that, way back
Hey, you're not my mother
Can I get a witness? I'm lookin' for a father
Hey, you ain't my lover
Ain't lookin' for another, lookin' for another
Don't owe you nothin'
You don't know me, I owe you
You don't owe me somethin'
Don't owe me somethin'
Don't owe me, eh

[Chorus]
Lies that travel faster than the truth
Hold it in, isn't that how the man do?
Never can I catch your face
No solid ground, no nearer have I come
Lies travel faster than the truth
Hold it in, isn't that how the man do?
No solid ground, no promised land
No nearer on the run, no nearer have I come
No solid ground, no promised land
All that we outrun, no nearer have I come

[Verse 2]
Orphanage hangin' off the Great Chinese Wall
Whispers cast and make an empty future call
Longitude, latitude, what I have best
No harness this beast
I don't need to give back, unleash
Gratitude, shit
You gave, I didn't ask for this shit
What you can't have you won't owe
Well, you don't need to ask
With this attitude alone
I've bore this cross
Found a way home
Found a way home

[Chorus]
Lies travel faster than the truth
Hold it in, isn't that how the man do?
No solid ground, same song
All the way I run, no nearer have I come
Lies travel faster than the truth

Neneh Cherry

Neneh Mariann Karlsson was born in Sweden to a Swedish mother and a father from Sierra Leone. Her mother raised her in a commune with her stepfather, jazz musician Don Cherry (father of Eagle Eye Cherry).

She moved to London in the 1980s and immersed herself in the Bristol music scene (where Massive Attack and Portishead would form), getting involved with bands such as The Cherries, The Slits, New Age Steppers, Rip Rig + Panic and Float Up CP.

But it was her collaboration with the duo Morgan-McVey, who released only the one single “Looking Good Diving”, that would be the springboard to launch her into international stardom. The single’s B-side featured Cherry rapping over the A-side’s instrumental tracks with what later became the lyrics to her 1988 debut breakout single “Buffalo Stance” (its music reworked by Bomb The Bass' Tim Simenon) – which reached the top 10 in eleven countries.
