The song was written about a family friend named Mandy VanDuyne, who was taught sign language by their mother so she could help the hearing impaired. [Intro: Paul McCartney]
One, two, three!

[Verse 1: Steve Miller, Paul McCartney]
I used to be bad, but I don't have to be bad no more
Yeah, I used to be bad, but I don't have to be bad no more
There ain't no doubt about it
People, it's something you can't ignore

[Verse 2: Paul, Steve]
Well, I ain't good looking
People, you know I've been up on a shelf
Yes, I know I ain't good looking, and I've been put up on the shelf
But I got a sweet disposition, I like to enjoy myself

[Verse 3: Steve, Paul]
I used to be bad, but I don't have to be bad no more
Yeah, I used to be bad, but I don't have to be bad no more
You know I learned my lesson a long, long time ago

[Verse 4: Paul, Steve]
Well, no matter what you say, no matter what you do
You got one life to live, it's going to come back home to you
I used to be bad, but I don't have to be bad no more
Yeah, people, I learned my lesson a long, long time ago
Yeah, yeah, yeah

[Guitar Solo]

[Verse 5: Steve, Paul]
The good Lord made this world and everything that's in it
Well, the way I see it, baby you got to love it to the limit
Oh yes, now people, it's something you can't ignore, yeah
Yes, I used to be bad, but I ain't going to be bad no more

[Verse 6: Paul, Steve]
Well, the way you treat me darling made me understand
Never quit you baby, I'm gonna love you to the end
Yeah, I used to be bad, but I ain't going to be bad no more (no more)
Yes, I learned my lesson a long, long time ago

[Outro: Paul, Steve]
Yes, I learned my lesson a long, long time ago
Yes, I learned my lesson
You're going to reap just what you sow

Paul McCartney

Sir James Paul McCartney, born June 18, 1942, is the single most successful music artist of all time. He found worldwide fame as the bass player and vocalist for The Beatles, and has continued to enjoy commercial success long after the band’s breakup.

His post-Beatles projects—the most lucrative of which was the band Wings, alongside then-wife Linda Eastman—have been met with mixed critical reception but he still retains a substantial public following, regularly conducting worldwide arena tours well into his later years.

His album sales with The Beatles, Wings and solo endeavours combined come to over 100 million, and his net worth was estimated to be approximately $1.2 billion circa 2018. He was knighted in 1997 and is known for his activism.
