Ua mau, ke ea o ka aina, i ka pono, o Hawai'i
Ua mau, ke ea o ka aina, i ka pono, o Hawai'i

(Spoken)
I feel free now, you know? I was just confined like, you know?
My Mom was born on Niihau. My Dad was born here
My Dad, he was a...he worked for the Navy. Down at PWCA
Public Works. Down Pearl Harbor
Oh my mother was tight ah...was tight. My Poppa was tight
My Poppa died when he--when I was 10 I think
...Was 10 years old. But every once in a while, he come
Back you know. ...I trip! Just like couple of weeks ago
I was sleeping my place, and then my mother and auntie Nina came...

How would they feel?
Would their smiles be content rather then cry?
Cry for the gods
Cry for the people
Cry for the land that was taken away
And then yet you'll find Hawai'i

He loved music brah
He had a massive heart attack
The way that--just depression brah. He was real depressed
I was on the same course he was going
And he knew that too. And that's why he came back
And tell me that "eh"--'cuase he DID come back and told me that
"Eh, 'cause, you know, no be scared. There's people here for
Help you brah". It's kinda like telling me, if he
Had them...he would still be here. I still believe if he had called me
He'd be alive
...'Cause he died of a broken heart brah

How would he feel?
Would his smiles be content rather then cry?
Cry for the gods
Cry for the people
Cry for the land that was taken away
And then yet you'll find Hawai'i

Ua mau, ke ea o ka aina, i ka pono, o Hawai'i
Ua mau, ke ea o ka aina, i ka pono, o Hawai'i

Ua mau, ke ea o ka aina, i ka pono, o Hawai'i
Ua mau, ke ea o ka aina, i ka pono, o Hawai'i

Pearl Jam

Founded in 1990 in Seattle, Pearl Jam is one of the most successful bands out of the grunge movement, if not of the whole alternative rock scene from the early 90s. The group started with Stone Gossard (guitar) and Jeff Ament (bass), veterans of the proto-grunge scene, recording a demo along with local guitarist Mike McCready. Once the tape passed along, it attracted a San Diego-based singer, Eddie Vedder. Along with drummer Dave Krusen, they signed with Epic Records and released Ten in 1991, which by the following year was becoming one of the most successful debut albums ever.

Growing uncomfortable with success, the following albums went for a more anguished and experimental sound, and the band’s notorious activism had its most prominent case once they boycotted Ticketmaster, accusing them of price-gouging fans. In the meantime, various drummers passed through the band, with percussion only settling once Soundgarden’s Matt Cameron joined them in the tour for 1998’s Yield.

With 10 studio albums and various live recordings (including “Official Bootlegs” of basically every concert the band performed since 2000), Pearl Jam has sold nearly 32 million records in the U.S. and an estimated 60 million worldwide.
