[Verse 1]
(Didn't want) No heartache and misery
I wanted a girl I was sure would be good to me
(Didn't want) No girl who could make me cry
I wanted a girl with a love that could satisfy

[Chorus]
Didn't want no sadness in love
All I wanted was gladness in love
But I fell in love with you and discovered
That the day you take one (Uh-huh)
You're gonna have to take the other

[Verse 2]
Oh, I didn't want no sleepless nights
I wanted a girl who would treat me right
Didn't want no tossing and turning
I wanted a girl to keep the love light burning

[Chorus]
Didn't want the bad things in love
All I wanted was the glad things in love
But I fell in love with you and discovеred
That the day you take onе (Uh-huh)
You're gonna have to take the other

Hey hey hey, hey hey hey, hey
Hey hey, hey hey hey, hey hey hey

[Bridge]
A little bad comes along with every good
You've got to take the bitter with the sweet, uh
True love never runs smooth like we think it should
But true love can't be beat, oh

[Verse 3]
Didn't want no trouble and confusion
The love I wanted was only an illusion
I didn't want to have to change none of my ways
I wanted to stay like I was all of my days

[Chorus]
Didn't want to make a sacrifice, uh
All I wanted was a girl that was nice
But I fell in love with you and discovered
That the day you take one (Uh huh)
You're gonna have to take the other, oh oh

[Outro]
(Didn't want no)
Trouble and confusion
(All I wanted was)
A love that was an illusion

(Didn't want no)
Heartache and misery
(All I wanted was)
A girl to be good to me

(Didn't want no)
Girl ...

The Miracles

The Miracles (also known as Smokey Robinson and the Miracles from 1965 to 1972) were an American rhythm and blues vocal group.

They were formed at school in Detroit in 1955 as The Five Chimes. In 1956 they changed their name to The Matadors, adding Claudette Rogers to the line-up. They were spotted by Berry Gordy at an audition in late 1957 and in February 1958 changed their name to The Miracles. Their first release, ‘Get A Job’ b/w ‘My Mama Done Told Me’, was issued via the End label that same month. Another single on End followed, and then one on Chess and Motown, before the group finally found a home on Tamla where they had a string of hits and Smokey established himself as a key songwriter for the label throughout the 1960s.

In late 1965 Berry Gordy decided to adjust the group’s name and they were billed thereafter as Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, until Smokey left the group in July 1972 (although the final Smokey Robinson & The Miracles single was not released until November). He was replaced by Billy Griffin, with the name being reverted back to The Miracles for the new line-up.
