[Verse 1]
Well, I'm not much on mystery
Yeah, you got to be careful what you dream
I thought this might pass with time
Yeah, I thought I was satisfied

[Chorus]
But oh honey, let me tell you, I got a thing about you
Baby, let me tell you, I got a thing about you
It don't matter what you say, don't matter what you do
I got a thing about you, I got a thing about you

[Verse 2]
Somewhere deep in the middle of the night
Lovers hold each other tight
Whisper in their anxious ears
Words of love that disappear

[Chorus]
But oh honey, let me tell you, I got a thing about you
Baby, let me tell you, I got a thing about you
It don't matter what you say, don't matter what you do
I got a thing about you, I got a thing about you

[Bridge]
Baby, you hold some strange control over me
Yeah, it's so wild, it hypnotizes me

[Chorus]
But oh honey, let me tell you, I got a thing about you
Baby, let me tell you, I got a thing about you
It don't matter what you say, don't matter what you do
I got a thing about you, I got a thing about you

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers – an L.A.-based gang of sharp-dressed garage-rock refugees from Gainsville, Florida – released their debut LP in November 1976, featuring two tracks which are now part of their long list of hits, “Breakdown” and “American Girl.”

Since that first LP in ‘76, the band’s style has epitomized and largely defined the American “heartland rock” movement – a vintage-guitar twang, hard lyric truth, and searing vocal attitude.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have been nominated for 17 Grammy awards and sold more than 80 million records worldwide, making them one of the world’s best-selling bands of all-time.
