[Verse 1]
Harry Green was my old friend
We met in Spanish class
Helped me out of a spot I was in
He stopped a redneck from kicking my ass
Stopped a redneck from kicking my ass
Harry Green was strong and tall
Played on a football team
Them good old boys said "you better watch out
He's not what he would seem
He's not what he would seem"

[Chorus]
Harry Green was alright by me
Harry Green was alright with me

[Verse 2]
Well, them high school halls can sure get rough
When you ain't like everyone else
Harry Green had to hold so much
Deep inside himself
Deep inside himself
Harry Green was middle class
Sixteen, he got a new car
I rеmember him in a talent show
Banging on his old guitar
Banging on his old guitar

[Chorus]
Harry Green was alright with mе
Harry Green was alright by me

[Verse 3]
It was second-hand news in the middle of the day
Sounded like a rumor or a lie
A Pontiac wrapped around an old oak tree
Vehicular suicide
Harry Green had died
Sometimes I wish I was still a boy
With life ahead of me
One day, I'll go back and say a few words
Over Harry Green
Over Harry Green

[Chorus]
Yeah, Harry Green was alright by me
Harry Green was alright by me
