(think of me) (repeats at the beginning of most measures)

Every corner I stop I see ghosts
Of these people, these people, I used to be
Every step that I take leaves more in my wake
So I just stand still

[Chorus]
Oh it gets so lonely
Oh it gets so lonely
Oh it gets so lonely
It's California or die

Oh
Don't say a word
Don't feed the birds
Don't make any waves
Or what man, or what?

We weren't powerful people
Who lift cars over our heads
I hate days carrying hatred
If it drops, let it drop
Let the Earth decide

[Chorus]

Once in a while when we smile and we mean it to strangers
Once in a while when we finally say what we mean
Then all of these people who rush by and brush at the edges
We touch at the edges
We mostly go hedging our bets, but we take a risk
Look in the eyes that you've hurt
What a feeling to be free from the way that you thought that you had to move through this world
What a joy to be home in your skin in your own tender skin
To be home and be still in this world that's the ultimate fantasy
But we're experts in fantasy

[Chorus] x2

Watsky

A successful slam poet turned rapper, Watsky first gained attention through ‘Russell Simmons’ HBO Def Poetry,’ and a later burst of viral success for his fast rapping. After a hiatus to work on new material, Watsky pivots again, this time to prose, returning simultaneously with the essay collection How To Ruin Everything, published by Plume/Penguin-Random House, of which Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda writes, “funny, subversive […] you find yourself nodding your head in wonder and recognition.” How To Ruin Everything debuted in the New York Times best-selling list. In total, he has created five studio albums and two live albums. Watsky released his fifth album, x INFINITY August 2016, describing it as his most ambitious project yet.
