Makonnen Kamali Sheran (born April 12, 1989), popularly known as iLoveMakonnen, is an American recording artist from South Los Angeles, CA.
Makonnen ran a blog interviewing recording artists, such as Lil B and Soulja Boy in 2008. At the same time, he began his music career, influenced by his grandmother, who was an opera singer, by releasing tracks on MySpace. In Atlanta, Makonnen met producer Mike WiLL Made-It in 2012, who introduced him to local producers such as Metro Boomin and Sonny Digital. After releasing his second EP, his song “Club Goin' Up on a Tuesday,” produced by Metro and Sonny Digital, gained Drake’s attention, who contacted Sonny Digital and jumped on a remix with the title renamed to “Tuesday.” Makonnen signed to OVO Sound a few weeks later. On April 19, 2016, it was confirmed that he had been dropped from the label before releasing an album under them.
