Jesy Nelson (born June 14, 1991) is a pop singer, who was a member of the hit British girl band Little Mix alongside Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Jade Thirlwall. They were formed during the 8th season of the television music competition The X Factor, and were the first band to win the show. They’ve since released six albums under Simon Cowell’s Syco Music before parting ways in November 2018. Jesy is also well known for her 18 month engagement to Rixton’s lead singer Jake Rouche.
In the early August, Nelson was mostly affected by cyberbullying and the criticism of her image, which ultimately led to the release of Odd One Out on BBC Three in September 2019. It contained the singer’s struggles with online trolling, including the confession about a suicide attempt over Katie Hopkins' tweet in November 2013, as she spoke about it, saying quote:
I was sat in bed crying, thinking [Starts sobbing.] I just remember thinking, “This is never going to go”. I’m going to constantly wake up and feel sad for the rest of my life, so, what is the point in being here? There is no point in waking up and feeling sad everyday. […] I physically couldn’t tolerate the pain anymore. It feels constantly feeling heartbroken. I remember feeling this has to go away and it was the first time I thought I’m going to do this, I’m going to end this. […] I remember going to the kitchen and I took as many tablets as I could. […] I just laid in bed for ages and thought ‘Hurry up and let it happen.‘ […] My ex who was with me at the time woke up and said, ‘Why are you crying?’ I said ‘I just want to die. I just want it to go away.’
