Mark Knopfler (born 12 August 1949) is a British songwriter, guitarist, and record producer. He led the rock band Dire Straits, which he co-founded with his brother David in 1977. Since 1995, he’s enjoyed great success as a solo artist, releasing nine solo albums.
Knopfler is a fingerstyle guitarist, and well-respected in musical circles, both for his playing and for his songwriting. He has a knack for writing new songs that sound ancient, and his dry baritone is addictive. He continues to record and perform today. His newest album is scheduled for release in 2015.
