Known as the originator of the “Wall of Sound” production method, Phil Spector popularized the “girl group” style in the 1960s and later worked with many critically acclaimed artists, such as Tina Turner, the Ramones, and even The Beatles. His incredible innovation within the recording industry has been widely influential, and he is sometimes regarded as the greatest producer of all time. Indeed, his work marks the beginning of the idea of record production as an art in and of itself, a move which would change popular culture forever. Few figures cast a longer shadow on pop music than Phil Spector.
Unfortunately, his reputation is irretrievably marred by the murder of Lana Clarkson in 2003, of which he was found guilty. He passed away on January 16, 2021 at the age of 81.
