[Verse 1]
Every time you raise your voice, I see the greener grass
Every time you run for cover, I see this pasture
Every time we're in a funk, I picture a different choice
Anytime we're in a rut, this distant grandeur

[Pre-Chorus 1]
My tendency to want to do away feels natural and
My urgency to dream of softer places feels understandable
But I know

[Chorus]
The only way out is through
The faster we're in, the better
The only way out is through ultimately
The only way out is through
The only way we'll feel better
The only way out is through ultimately

[Verse 2]
Every time that I'm confused, I think there must be easier ways
Every time our horns are locked on towel throwing
Every time we're at a loss, we've bolted from difficulty
Anytime we're in stalemate, a final bowing

[Pre-Chorus 2]
My tendency to want to hide away feels easier and
The immediacy is picturing another place comforting to go

[Chorus]
The only way out is through
The faster we're in, the better
The only way out is through ultimately
The only way out is through
The only way we'll feel better
The only way out is through ultimately

[Bridge]
We could just walk away and hide our heads in the sand
We could just call it quits, only to start all over again
With somebody else

[Verse 3]
Every time we're stuck in struggle, I'm down for the count that day
Every time I dream of quick fix, I'm swaged
Now I know it's hard when it's through and I'm damned if I don't know quick fix way
But formerly mistreat me silence now outdated

[Pre-Chorus 2]
My tendency to want to run feels unnatural now
The urgency to want to give to you I don't want most feels good
And I know

[Chorus]
The only way out is through
The faster we're in, the better
The only way out is through ultimately
The only way out is through
The only way we'll feel better
The only way out is through ultimately

The only way out is through
The faster we're in, the better
The only way out is through ultimately
The only way out is through
The only way we'll get better
The only way out is through ultimately

Alanis Morissette

Alanis Nadine Morissette was born on June 1, 1974, in Ottawa, Canada. At age 6, she began taking piano lessons, and by the time she was 9, she was writing her own songs.

When she was 11, Morissette joined the cast of a Nickelodeon children’s show called You Can’t Do That on Television, and saved up her earnings. In 1987, she used them to self-release her first track, “Fate Stay With Me.” The song caught the attention of record label MCA Canada; at age 14, Morissette signed a contract with the company. She released a self-titled album, Alanis, in 1991, which went platinum. Quickly following up the success of her first album, Morissette released Now Is The Time a year later, though it did not reach the same level of popularity.

In 1994 Morissette moved to Los Angeles teamed up with industry veteran Glen Ballard, and she began to approach songwriting more organically.
