[Intro: Dawn Robinson, The Notorious B.I.G. Sample, Raphael Saadiq & Dawn Robinson]
(I ain't mad at cha)
To all you twisted people who love to take advantage of artists like us
Guess what? Huh, we ain't mad at cha
(I ain't mad at cha)
Da da, da, da
Da da, da, da da (Mad at cha)
Da da, da, da
Da da, da, da da (Mad at cha)

[Verse 1: Dawn Robinson & The Notorious B.I.G. Sample]
There's no need to hate on us so hard
You can't stand the fact that we're so smart (Mad at cha)
We got the hell off the train before it ran off the track
Got up on this Lucy thing and we never looked back

[Chorus: Dawn Robinson]
They can't handle us
'Cause they can't step on us
And they can't use us up no more (No no)
They tried to funk with us
But they can't put a stop to us
'cause they can't control us no more

[Verse 2: Dawn Robinson & The Notorious B.I.G. Sample]
That was such an evil game you played (I ain't mad, mad at cha)
But your mouth wrote a check that your ass is still payin' today (I ain't mad at cha)
'Cause it blew up in your face
And now you gotta reap what you sowed (Mad)
Lies and deceit will kill your mind and eat away at your soul, oh oh

[Chorus: Dawn Robinson & The Notorious B.I.G. Sample]
They can't handle us
'Cause they can't step on us
And they can't use us up no more (Oh oh no)
They tried to funk with us
But they can't put a stop to us
'Cause they can't control us no more (No no)
They can't handle us
'Cause they can't step on us
And they can't use us up no more (Use us up no more)
They tried to funk with us
But they can't put a stop to us (Put a stop to us, no no)
'Cause they can't control us no more (Can't control us no more)
They can't handle us
'Cause they can't step on us
And they can't use us up no more
(They can't use us up, they can't use us)
They tried to funk with us
But they can't put a stop to us
'Cause they can't control us no more (Control us)
(I ain't mad at cha)

Lucy Pearl

Lucy Pearl was a group consisting of Raphael Saadiq from Tony! Toni! Toné!, Ali Shaheed Muhammad from A Tribe Called Quest, and Dawn Robinson from En Vogue. Initially, Dawn wasn’t in the group but she was brought in to replace D'Angelo after he dropped out because of scheduling conflicts due to him working on his second album Voodoo around the same time. Lucy Pearl released their self-titled (and only) album on May 23, 2000. The album peaked at #26 on the Billboard 200 chart and achieved Gold status. The album spawned the hit singles “Dance Tonight,” “Don’t Mess With My Man,” and “You” featuring Snoop Dogg and Q-Tip with co-production from DJ Battlecat. “Dance Tonight” was nominated for a Grammy in the Best R&B Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group category. After having issues with the group’s management, Dawn left the group and was replaced by Joi in 2001 shortly before the group disbanded.
