[Verse 1]
At first I was afraid, I was petrified
Kept thinkin' I could never live without you by my side
But then I spent so many nights thinking how you did me wrong
And I grew strong
And I learned how to get along

And now you're back from outer space
I just walked in to find you here with that there look upon your face
I should have changed that stupid lock
I should have made you leave your key
If I had known for just one second you'd be back to bother me

Go on now, go, walk out the door
Just turn around now
'Cause you're not welcome anymore
Weren't you the one who tried to hurt me with goodbye?
Did you think I'd crumble?
Did you think I'd lay down and die?

[Chorus]
Oh no not I, I will survive
Oh, as long as I know how to love, I know I'll stay alive
I've got all my life to live
And I've got all my love to give
And I'll survive
I'll survive
Hey, hey

[Verse 2]
I asked the Lord, give me strength and not let me fall apart
I tried hard to mend the pieces of my broken heart
And I spent so many nights feeling sorry for myself
I used to cry, but now I hold my head up high

And now you see me, somebody new
I'm not that tender little person still swept for you
So you felt like dropping by, and you expected me to be free
Well, I'm savin' all my lovin' for someone who's lovin' me

[Pre-Chorus]
Oh now go, walk out the door
Just turn around now
'Cause you're not welcome anymore
Weren't you the one who tried to crush me with goodbyes?
Did you think I'd crumble? Ha ha ha
You think I'd lay down and die?

[Chorus]
Oh no, oh no, I will survive
As long as I know how to love, I know I'll stay alive
I've got all my life to live
I've got all my love to give
And I'll survive
I will survive
I...I will, I will

[Bridge]
I'm a survivor, I'm gonna make it
I'm not gonna stop, I'm gonna get stronger
I'm a survivor, I'm gonna make it
I'm not gonna stop, I'm gonna get stronger
I'm a survivor, I'm not gon' give up
I'm not gonna stop, I'm gon' work harder

(Ooh) Are you listening? (Listen here)
Now you know it took all of the strength that I had not to fall apart
I kept trying hard to mend the pieces of my broken heart
But I will survive
It took all the strength I had not to fall apart
I tried hard to mend the pieces of my broken heart
I spent so many nights feeling sorry for myself
I used to cry, yeah, but now I hold my head up high
And now you see me, somebody new
I'm not that tender little person still in love with you
Oh, so you felt like stopping by and expected me to be free?
Yeah, well, I'm savin' all my lovin' for someone who's lovin' me
Beat it! (Beat it!) Get to steppin'! (Get to steppin'!)
Keep it movin' (Keep it movin')
Get on down the road, alright? (Get on down the road)
Weren't you the one who tried to crush me with goodbyes?
Did you think I'd crumble? Ha ha ha ha
You thought I'd lay down and die?

[Chorus]
Oh no (Oh no), this is me (I will survive)
As long as I know how to love, I know I'll stay alive
I've got all my life to live
I've got all my love to give
And I'll survive
I will survive
Hey hey...hey, ooh...

Aretha Franklin

Aretha Franklin is both a 20th and 21st century musical and cultural icon known simply by her first Aretha. She is the reigning and undisputed “Queen Of Soul” with a legacy that spans five decades. A native of Detroit, Michigan, Aretha began her career singing gospel at her father, minister C. L. Franklin’s church as a child. In 1960, at the age of 18, Aretha embarked on a secular career, recording for Columbia Records with modest success.

After moving to Atlantic Records in 1967, she released a steady string of US top ten hits through 1973 including “Spanish Harlem”, “Chain Of Fools”, “Baby I Love You”, “Since You’ve Been Gone”, “Daydreaming”, “The House That Jack Built”, “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman", ”Think“ and her first chart-topper “Respect” – a song that also won Aretha her first of 18 Grammys. During this time, several of her songs were also successful overseas.

By the mid-70s, Aretha’s commercial success waned and she left Atlantic for Clive Davis' Arista Records in 1980. Her 1982 song “Jump to It,” returned her to the top 40 for the first time in six years. 1985’s Who’s Zoomin' Who? got her back into the top 10 twice with its title track and “Freeway Of Love”. Four more songs reached the top 40 through 1986.
