[Verse 1]
Have you heard the news? It's all over town
If you ain't heard it, boys, you better sit down
I got the story here, it's hot off the press
Brace yourself now and take a deep breath
Grab a hold of somethin', hold on tight
Betty Lou's gettin' out tonight

[Verse 2]
First heard the rumor down on Twelfth and Main
The poor druggist, he was goin' insane
His stuff is sellin' out like never before
He finally had to up and close the store
All the boys were gettin' ready to fight
Betty Lou's gettin' out tonight

[Chorus]
Betty Lou's gettin' out tonight
Betty Lou's gettin' out tonight
She was bad, her mama gotten mad
But now her mama says it's alright
All the boys are gettin' ready and right
Betty Lou's gettin' out tonight

[Bridge]
Betty Lou
Betty Lou
It's all true
It's really true
What do you think about that, boys?
(Ah!)
Yeah

[Guitar Solo: Drew Abbott]
Ah yeah

[Saxophone Solo: Alto Reed]
Ow

[Bridge]
Betty Lou
Betty Lou
Yes it's true
Betty Lou
Ahhh, ahhh

[Chorus]
Well, Betty Lou's gettin' out tonight
Betty Lou's gettin' out tonight
She was bad, her mama got mad
But now her mama says it's alright
All the boys are gettin' ready and right
Betty Lou's gettin' out tonight
Her mama said that it would be alright
Betty Lou's gettin' out tonight
Grab a hold of somethin', hold on tight
Betty Lou's gettin' out tonight

As a locally successful Detroit-area artist, he performed and recorded as Bob Seger and the Last Heard and Bob Seger System throughout the 1960s. By the early 1970s, he had dropped the “System” from his recordings and continued to strive for broader success with various other bands. On his studio albums, he also worked extensively with the Alabama-based Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section, which appeared on several of Seger’s best-selling singles and albums.

In 1976, he achieved a national breakout with the studio album Night Moves. The Night Moves title track became his first Billboard Top 5 single and the album started a string six consecutive albums landing in the Billbaord Top 10. The 1980 album, Against the Wind, topped the charts.
