[Verse 1: Shawn]
I probably should have told her the sky was falling
Or maybe that my car ran out of gas
My grandma was sick and I had to leave town right away
Not okay

[Nate]
Tell one more to fix the last one
But I never get back to the truth
Thinking to myself she’ll never find out
That’s what we do (That’s what we do)
That’s how we do (That’s how we do)

[Bridge 1: Wanya]
I wonder what she really thinks of me
Shouldn’t really told her everything
But it’s too late
Can’t take it back
She’ll never look at me the same way again
Noooooo

[Hook]
(I shoulda lied) Cause the truth made her set me free
(And now goodbye) Is more than just a word
My honesty just became my enemy
Maybe a lie would have made things right this time
Shoulda lied
Shoulda lied

[Verse 2: Nate]
Shoulda said it was the end of the world
But sadly it’s my reality

[Shawn]
Would she stay if I said I only had one day left
Stay with me (Stay with me)
Please don’t leave (Please don’t leave)

[Bridge 2 – Wanya]
I wonder what she really thinks of me
I wish I would have never said a thing
But it’s too late for that
I don’t think she’s coming back
And I’ll never look at truth the same again

[Hook]
(I shoulda lied) Cause the truth made her set me free
(And now goodbye) Is more than just a word
My honesty just became my enemy
Maybe a lie would have made things right this time
Shoulda lied
Shoulda lied

[Bridge 2 - Wanya]
Now I’m trying hard to convince my heart
That everything would be ok
She said she’ll never leave
And I just can’t believe she’s gone
And now I know

[Hook]
(I shoulda lied) Cause the truth made her set me free
(And now goodbye) Is more than just a word
My honesty just became my enemy
Maybe a lie would have made things right this time
I Shoulda lied
And now goodbye

Promise myself next time I won’t tell the truth
Cuz If I knew what I knew right now I’ll still be with you
I shoulda lied
Shoulda lied
I shoulda lied
Shoulda lied

Boyz II Men

Boyz II Men is an R&B vocal quartet from Philadelphia who became the most successful pop group of the 1990s. They’re best known for their passionate ballads, including the number one hits “End of The Road,” “On Bended Knee,” and “I’ll Make Love To You.”

An early version of the group was founded by Nathan Morris in the mid 1980s while attending the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts, where he recruited students Wanya Morris, Shawn Stockman, and Michael McCary. Singer Marc Nelson was also an early member, but left the group before their big break.

The group—who took its name from New Edition’s song “Boys To Men”—was discovered in 1988 after auditioning for New Edition’s Michael Bivins backstage at a concert. Bivins signed the group to his management company and secured them a contract with Motown Records.
