Songwriter: Willie Nelson

[Chorus]
It's been rough and rocky travelin', but I'm finally standin' upright on the ground
After taking several readings, I'm surprised to find my mind is fairly sound
I guess Nashville was the roughest, but I know I've said the same about them all
We received our education in cities of the nation, me and Paul

[Verse 1]
Almost busted in Laredo for reasons that I'd rather not disclose
But if you stay in a motel there and leave, just don't leave nothin' in your clothes
And at the airport in Milwaukee they refused to let us board the plane at all
They said we looked suspicious but I believe they like to pick on me and Paul

[Chorus]
It's been rough and rocky travelin', but I'm finally standin' upright on the ground
After taking several readings, I'm surprised to see my mind is fairly sound
I guess Nashville was the roughest, but I've come to say the same about them all
We received our education in cities of the nation, me and Paul

[Verse 2]
On a package show in Buffalo, with us and Joe Nichols and the Eli Young Band
Well the storms are strong and we were sittin' there, we'd come to play and not just for the ride
Well at the Taste of Country that night we drank a lot of whiskey But we never saw the stage at all
But I know Buffalo they missed us, 'cause they threw some cheers for me and Paul

[Chorus]
Yeah it's been rough and rocky travelin', and I'm finally standin' upright on the ground
And after taking several readings, I'm surprised to see my mind is fairly sound
Yeah I guess Nashville is the roughest, but I know I've said the same about them all
We received our education in cities of the nation, me and Paul
We received our education in the cities of the nation, me and Paul

Eric Church

Eric Church is an American country music singer-songwriter from Granite Falls, North Carolina. After graduating from Appalachian State University with a business degree in 2000, Eric became engaged to a Spanish teacher from Lenior, NC whose father attempted to deter his musical aspirations by offering him a corporate career in Denver. After turning down her father’s offer, Church’s ex-fiance broke the engagement, giving Church motivation to move to Nashville and begin focusing solely on his music. Recollections of this turning point in Church’s life are heard throughout his lyrical portfolio (most prominently in “Those I’ve Loved”).

After a period of being overlooked by record labels and producers, Church was eventually signed to Capitol Records in 2006, making his debut with the album, Sinners Like Me. The album produced four singles on the Billboard Country Chart, “How ‘Bout You,” “Two Pink Lines,” “Guys Like Me,” and the album’s title track.

His second album, 2009’s Carolina, produced three more “Smoke a Little Smoke,” “Love Your Love the Most,” and “Hell on the Heart.”
