Songwriter: Axl Rose Izzy Stradlin

Producer: Guns N’ Roses Mike Clink

[Verse 1: Izzy Stradlin]
I try and feel the sunshine, you bring the rain
You try and hold me down with your complaints
You cry and moan and complain, you whine an tear
Up to my neck in sorrow the touch you bring

[Pre-Chorus: Izzy Stradlin]
You just don't step inside to, to 14 years
So hard to keep my own head, that's what I say and you know
I've been the beggar, I've played the thief
I was the dog they all tried to beat

[Chorus: Axl Rose with Izzy Stradlin]
But it's been 14 years of silence
It's been 14 years of pain
It's been 14 years that are gone forever and I'll never have again

[Verse 2: Izzy Stradlin]
Your stupid girlfriends tell you, that I'm to blame
Well, they're all used up has-beens out of the game
This time I'll have the last word, you hear what I say?
I tried to see it your way, it won't work today

[Pre-Chorus: Izzy Stradlin]
You just don't step inside to, to 14 years
So hard to keep my own head, that's what I say, you know
I've been the dealer hangin' on your street
I was the dog they all tried to beat

[Chorus: Axl Rose with Izzy Stradlin]
But it's been 14 years of silence
It's been 14 years of pain
It's been 14 years that are gone forever and I'll never have again

[Verse 3: Izzy Stradlin]
Bullshit and contemplation, gossip's their trade
If they knew half the real truth, what would they say?
Well I'm past the point of concern, it's time to play
These last four years of madness sure put me straight

[Outro: Izzy Stradlin]
You don't get back 14 years in just one day
So hard to keep my own head, just go away, you know
Just like a hooker, she said, "Nothin's for free"
Oh, I tried to see it your way
I tried to see it your way

Guns N’ Roses

Guns N' Roses was the most dangerous band in the world in the late 80s and early 90s. Led by singer Axl Rose and stylish guitarist Slash, they mixed the passion of blues, the heaviness of rock, and the attitude of punk, bringing forth a breath of fresh air to a music scene dominated by cheesy hair metal bands.

Their debut album, Appetite for Destruction, is the best selling debut of all-time. They outsold a headlining Aerosmith on their first major tour, released two double albums (Use Your Illusion I & II) simultaneously, and soon would play to audiences in excesses of 20,000 people.

However, cracks started forming in the band, as classic era drummer Steven Adler was fired from the band before the “Use Your Illusion” releases and founding rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin left abruptly during the ensuing tour. They were replaced by Matt Sorum and Gilby Clarke, respectively, with keyboardist Dizzy Reed joining the band and expanding the group’s sound.
