You must be thinkin' something
But you ain't sayin' nothing
You remember me
I used to be your boyfriend

There ain't no point in reason
It only gets defensive
Why should we ruin the purity of the moment?

It's a laugh
(Who ooh ooh ooh)
What a laugh
(Who ooh ooh ooh)
It's so stupid I gotta laugh
(Who ooh ooh ooh)
And the funny thing is
Everyone thought we were forever

It's a laugh
(It's a laugh)
What a laugh
(What a laugh)
It's so stupid that I gotta laugh
And the odd thing is
I really thought we were special

Maybe I should feel guilty
Is that the American way?
But I just look at myself
As if I were above me

You must be thinking something
But you ain't saying nothing
You remember me
I have been here always

It's a laugh
(Who ooh ooh ooh)
What a laugh
(Who ooh ooh ooh)
It's so stupid I gotta laugh
(Who ooh ooh ooh)
And the funny thing is
Everyone thought we were forever

It's a laugh
(It's a laugh)
What a laugh
(What a laugh)
It's so stupid that I gotta laugh
And the odd thing is I really thought
(Who ooh ooh ooh)
We were special, ohh
We were forever, ahh

It's a laugh
(It's a laugh)
What a laugh
(What a laugh)
It's so stupid I gotta laugh
And the funny thing is
Everyone thought we were forever

It's a laugh
(It's a laugh)
What a laugh
(What a laugh)
It's so stupid that I gotta laugh
And the odd thing is
(Who ooh ooh ooh)
I really thought we were special

So special, it's a laugh
(It's a laugh)
What a laugh
(What a laugh)
It's so stupid I gotta laugh
And the odd thing is
(Who ooh ooh ooh)
Everyone thought we were forever

Hall & Oates

Hall & Oates released the first of their 18 albums in 1972 on Atlantic Records. They would go on to sell 13 million albums and 6 million singles primarily during the 70’s and 80’s when they recorded their most prolific and profound music. They blended rock, jazz, soul, and pop create a genre they titled rock and soul.

While their technical musicianship, innovative songwriting styles, and popular live performances were praised, they also had a fruitful partnership with their manager Tommy Mottola, who was helped Hall & Oates break into music videos before they were popular and made profitable financial deals by helping them get on the ground level of and corporate sponsorship of tours. Hall & Oates were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.
