Why We Thugs

[Intro: WC]
Can my homeboy tell y'all where the fuck he from? (Ah yeah)
Can my homeboy tell y'all where the fuck he from?
Ayo Cube, let's get this party started, my nigga
Won't you tell Perth where the fuck you from?

[Verse 1: Ice Cube]
I'm from the land of the gangbang
Since I was little, ain't a goddamn thang changed
It's the same ol' same
Bush run shit like Saddam Hussein
I cock and aim, clinically insane
To deal with this bullshit day to day
If I sell some yay or smoke some hay
You bitches wanna throw me up in Pelican's Bay
Call me an animal up in the system
But who's the animal that built this prison?
Who's the animal that invented lower living?
The projects, thank God for Russell Simmons
Thank God for Sugarhill
I'm putting a different kind of steel up to my grill
Y'all know what it is, scared for your own kids
How these ghetto niggas taken over showbiz

[Chorus: Ice Cube]
They gives us guns and drugs
Then wonder why in the fuck we thugs (You know)
They wanna count the slugs
Then come around here and fuck with us (You know)
They gives us guns and drugs
Then wonder why in the fuck we thugs (You know)
They wanna count the slugs
Then come around here and fuck with us

[Verse 2: Ice Cube]
It's boyz in the hood (What), it's toys in the hood (What)
Y'all wanna know why there's noise in the hood
'Cause there's drugs in the hood, thugs in the hood
Nigga killed a Crip and a Blood in the hood (For real)
'Cause when niggas get tribal
It's all about survival, it's nobody liable
I got caught by five-oh
Grandmama came to court with her Bible
But when the judge hit the gavel
Now I'm too far from my family to travel (Fuck)
I just came unraveled
Socked the D.A. before I got gaffled
Owned by C.A, State Property
Just like the year 1553
Looking for me, a one-way ticket out
Don't understand, what's so hard to figure out?

[Chorus: Ice Cube]
They gives us guns and drugs
Then wonder why in the fuck we thugs
They wanna count the slugs
Then come around here and fuck with us (You know)
They gives us guns and drugs
Then wonder why in the fuck we thugs (You know)
They wanna count the slugs
Then come around here and fuck with us

[Interlude: WC]
Yo, won't you break it down for Perth; break it down

[Verse 3: Ice Cube]
Damn, can't take the pressure
Pulled the fo'-fo' up out the dresser
Grabbed the weight up out the closet
Po-po coming but I'm scared to toss it
Y'all know what happened last time I lost it
Can't tell you niggas what the fucking boss did
The game got a nigga exhausted
I gotta go for the plea bargain they offered
Twenty years for what?
Breaking these laws that's so corrupt
Taking these halls and filling 'em up
Some powder keg shit that's about to erupt
Ay y'all, I'm about to be stuck
Until the year two thousand, what the fuck?
In the hood, don't press your luck
'Cause these motherfuckers will set you up, word up

[Chorus: Ice Cube]
They gives us guns and drugs
Then wonder why in the fuck we thugs (You know)
They wanna count the slugs
Then come around here and fuck with us (You know)
They gives us guns and drugs
Then wonder why in the fuck we thugs (Yeah)
They wanna count the slugs
Then come around here and fuck with us

[Outro: Ice Cube]
Perth, every hood's the same
Every hood's the same
Yo Perth, every hood's the same
Every hood's the same
Even in Perth, every hood's the same
Every hood's the same
We love Perth, every hood's the same
Every hood's the same
Believe that shit

[Interlude: Ice Cube & WC]
Ah, they lookin' good out there tonight, Cube
Ay Perth, you lookin' damn good to me tonight, shit
Ah, they lookin' good tonight
Now, it's lookin' good, but it ain't really smellin' good now, you know what I mean
Here's why: I don't smell no muthafuckin' chronic in the air
What the fuck is goin' on?
I mean, I know they didn't let Snoop in the house
But goddamn it, I'm here, goddamnit
I was able to get in, so shit, show me a little California love, man
Put it in the air
Ay, ay, Crazy Toones, help these muthafuckas put it in the air, man
Fire it up! Blaze it up!
And do what?
Smoke some weed

Ice Cube

Straight outta South Central Los Angeles, Ice Cube became one of the most respected rappers in hip-hop, helping to usher in the era of gangsta rap with N.W.A and as a solo artist. He has gone on to become a mogul in Hollywood but still remains true to the game that brought him his success.

Born O'Shea Jackson on June 15, 1969, Ice Cube got his name from his older brother, who threatened to put him in a freezer and pull him out when he was an ice cube. He began rapping in high school and started his rap career as a member of Stereo Crew, which released the single “She’s a Skag” through Epic Records in 1986, and C.I.A. with the 1987 track “My Posse.” Both groups featured producer Sir Jinx, the cousin of DJ/producer Dr. Dre.

Ice Cube’s big break came when he wrote the song “Boyz n the Hood” for Eazy-E, which led to the formation of N.W.A. as a group. After the release of the 1987 compilation N.W.A. and the Posse, the group released their classic debut Straight Outta Compton in 1988. A financial dispute caused Cube to leave the group in 1989 and start his successful solo career, starting with his 1990 platinum debut Amerikkka’s Most Wanted.
