[Intro]
When I was little, there was this tree called the Pagus tree
It was a big tree on the edge of a hill, and uh
Wow, that was great, I've never done that, that's kinda scary
And uh, I learned about everything I know underneath that tree
Because you could watch and really get the sense of rhythm, you know?
Everything has a flow, and uh
I sat down there one time and watched the tide come in and out
And the sun was about to set
And it made me realize, oh, the sun doesn't, isn't afraid of the night
You know, it just gives up 'cause it knows it's gonna rise again
And uh, it's interesting 'cause we light up our cities so much
And we have all these lights, you know, 'cause we're
I don't know, afraid, we forget we're part of the sun or something, you know?
And just the natural rhythm of things
Sometimes, the tide's out, sometimes it just sucks, but it always comes back in
And to surrender to that instead of struggling against it is a lot easier
So I wrote this song about that

[Verse 1]
Standing in a circle
The wolves have come
But they won't bother her, no
'Cause dancing with her hands of leaves
She'll sing for them
And ease their hungerin'
She's a quiet warrior

[Verse 2]
Standing at the ocean's stoney shores
The waves all worship her
She stands in trust and lets the night swallow her
Because she knows that she's a piece of the sun
And a quiet warrior

[Chorus]
And you ask her where from the wind blows
She says it's how the sky sings
And you ask her, "How does the sun rise?"
She says for you desire it to be seen
And you ask her how does she make your heart fly
And she'll tell you
You know why
She's a quiet warrior

[Verse 3]
Roaring silently, he's a lion
And he'll hunt for you
The ravens, they rest on his golden crown
And steal your soul
He's a quiet warrior

[Verse 4]
His eyes are warm because his hands
They are made of light
And they welcome you
He smiles and it feels like you've known him
Yes, it feels like coming home
'Cause he's a quiet warrior

[Chorus]
And you ask him where from the wind blows
He says it's how the earth breathes
And you ask him, "How does the sun rise?"
He'll say that she's got wings
Oh, and you ask him how does he make your heart fly
And he'll tell you
You know why
He's your quiet warrior
Ah, mmm

[Outro]
Alright, this a yodel
I have a little traumatic story to tell first
When I was in, I started yodeling when I was six
And by the fourth grade, I was pretty good
And there was a talent show
I thought, "I'm gonna have this down
Everybody else is doing little hands through your arms and brush the other guy's teeth"
Been done, I was gonna yodel
And I'd been performing since I was really little
So I felt pretty confident on the stage and everybody else would be nervous
So I got up there and laid into my little yodel
Did this little song and did this little yodel
And the whole fourth grade and fifth grade laughed at me
I know, I'm still seeing a therapist
They thought I was trying to sing
It's that tender age of voice crackage
So this is a song I learned when I was six
My dad had to sing the "kiss" part 'cause I got really embarrassed
