There's lightning in the sky
And the houses are on fire
The sun is getting cold
And the river's getting higher
So I keep moving on
I'm watching where I'm driving
I'm staying right on coast
I'm taking all of my things

[Chorus:]
I hope this train
Don't fall off the track
Cause I gotta make it back
Yea yea
I hope this train
Don't fall off the track
Cause I, I gotta make it back
So much is in my path
And the preachers right before me
But yesterday has passed
Committed to my memory
So what else can I say
You're doing what you're giving
And I'm fighting everyday
I'm loving and I'm leaving

[Chorus:]
And I hope this train
Don't fall off the track
Cause I, I gotta make it back
Yea yea
I hope this train
Don't fall off the track
Cause I, I gotta make it back
I'm on my way
Felt the wind at my back
Rolling down the track
[Solo]
Now I tell myself
But baby have no fear
Cause changes what you make it
And home is getting near
So close that I can taste it

[Chorus:]
I know this train
Won't fall off the track
Cause I, I'm gonna make it back
Yea yea
I know this train
Won't fall off the track
Cause I, I'm gonna make it back
Yea I, I'm gonna make it back

Joan Jett & The Blackhearts

After splitting with The Runaways, and releasing her first solo album, Joan Jett placed an ad in LA Weekly looking for bandmates. Gary Ryan, Eric Ambel, and Danny “Furious” O'Brien joined her, creating the orginial Blackhearts lineup.

After their initial tour though, O'Brien was replaced with Lee Crystal.

Early on, keeping the band afloat was not easy. Joan and producer Kenny Laguna struggled, sometimes selling copies of albums from the trunk of his car. Eventually unable to keep up with the demand for Joan Jett’s album, they signed with Boardwalk Records.
