[Verse 1: Jordan Davis]
Few days before he turned 80
He was sitting out back in a rocker
He said "what you been up to lately?"
I told him chasing a dollar
And in between sips of coffee
He poured this wisdom out
Said if you want my two cents on making a dollar count

[Chorus: Jordan Davis]
Buy dirt
Find the one you can't live without
Get a ring, let your knee hit the ground
Do what you love but call it work
And throw a little money in the plate at church
Send some prayers up and your roots down deep
Add a few limbs to your family tree
And watch their pencils marks, and the grass in the yard
All grow up
'Cause the truth about it is it all goes by real quick
You can't buy happiness
But you can buy dirt

[Verse 2: Luke Bryan]
Before you get caught on that ladder
Let me tell you what it's all about
Find you a few things that matter
That you can put a fence around
And then he laid it out

[Chorus: Jordan Davis & Luke Bryan]

[Bridge: Jordan Davis & Luke Bryan]
You can buy dirt
And thank the good Lord for it
'Cause He ain't makin' any more of it

[Chorus: Jordan Davis & Luke Bryan]

Jordan Davis

Jordan Davis is a contemporary country singer who proudly follows in the footsteps of Sam Hunt, dressing his solid country foundation with a blend of pop, modern R&B, and hip-hop. This fusion can be heard on “Singles You Up,” the bright and soulful debut single that arrived in the spring of 2017. “Singles You Up” appeared after Davis spent several years working as a professional songwriter in Nashville. He moved there from his native Shreveport, Louisiana, where he was born in 1989. Music ran in the family’s His father played ‘70s singer/songwriter fare around the house; Jordan’s uncle, Stan Paul Davis, was a professional songwriter who composed two hits for Tracy Lawrence (1992’s “Today’s Lonely Fool” and 1997’s number two hit “Better Man, Better Off”), and his older brother Jacob also pursued a career as a singer.

Initially, Jordan didn’t plan to pursue music. He graduated from LSU Baton Rouge with a degree in resource conservation, but once he received encouragement from his brother to head to Nashville, he decided to pack up and move to the Music City in 2012. In 2015 he landed a publishing deal with ole Rights Management, and in February 2016 he signed with UMG Nashville. During that year he began collaborating with Paul DiGiovanni – a guitarist who worked with Dan + Shay and Hunter Hayes – and started work on his first album. Following the success of “Singles You Up,” which peaked at number five on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart, Davis began issuing a stream of singles in advance of his first album. Home State, his full-length debut, arrived in March 2018. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi
