[Verse 1]
Look in my eyes
Tell me what you see
Do you see perfection in me?
To you, do I look complete?
Now take one more look past my celebrity
That's where you'll find the real me
To you, do I still look complete?

[Pre-Chorus]
I got every material thing I could ever need (Hmm)
I got the love from my fans that adore me (Yeah yeah yeah)
And I'm grateful (And I thank you so very much)
But my love for myself is lacking a little bit (Just a little bit)
I can admit that I'm working on me (Mmm)
Staying faithful (And what I'm tryna say is...)

[Chorus]
Just like you, sometimes I get down (I get down)
Sometimes I just wanna cry (I just wanna cry)
Sometimes I get depressed
And just like me, tryin' to be complete (Tryin' be complete, oh)
Just understand we're all just a work in progress

[Verse 2]
Life can be difficult
No one promised that it would be
(No one promised it would be sunshine all the time)
Sunshine all the time, easy
Some pain is guaranteed
But it ain't impossible (Not impossible)
You can find the joy, you see
Took me a while but I did finally
Open your eyes and you will see I'm just like you

[Chorus]
Just like you, sometimes I get down (Get down, oh)
Sometimes I just wanna cry (Just wanna cry)
Sometimes I get depressed (So depressed)
And just like me, tryin' to be complete (Tryin' to be complete)
Just understand we're all just a work in progress (Oh)

[Bridge]
Anybody knowing what it is to struggle (Oh)
Never ever running in the face of trouble (Oh yeah)
Say "I'm with you" (I'm with you)
"I feel you" (I feel you)
"I'm with you"
Just like you...
Sometimes I fall, but don't we all?
Baby, I feel your pain
We're all the same
We're all the same, oh, I am just like you

[Chorus]
Just like you, sometimes I get down
Sometimes I just wanna cry
Sometimes I get depressed
Oh, just like me (Just like me), tryin' to be complete (Tryin' to be complete)
Just understand we're all just a work in progress
(Just understand we're all a work in progress)
Just like you (Yeah, yeah, yeah), sometimes I get down
(Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah yeah yeah, oh)
Sometimes I just wanna cry
Sometimes I get depressed (Can you feel me? Can you hear me?)
And just like me, tryin' to be complete (I am, I am, I'm just like you)
Just understand we're all just a work in progress (A work in progress)

Mary J. Blige

Mary Jane Blige (b. Jan 11 1971) grew up in the projects of Yonkers, New York. A random decision to record a cover of “Caught Up in the Rapture” by Anita Baker in a pop-up recording booth at a mall led MJB to getting signed by Uptown Entertainment. After providing background vocals on Father MC’s hit single “I’ll Do 4 U” in 1990, a young intern at Uptown named Sean “Puffy” Combs ended up executive producing Mary’s 1992 debut album What’s The 411?. Fusing hip-hop beats with Mary’s soulful voice earned her the nickname “Queen of Hip-Hop Soul”.

She followed up her debut with a string of critically acclaimed albums, including 1994’s My Life and 1997’s Share My World, as well as hit singles such as “Not Gon' Cry,” “Family Affair,” “Be Without You,” and “Just Fine.”

She also collaborated with rappers on a number of tracks, including Jay-Z’s “Can’t Knock the Hustle,” Ghostface Killah’s “All That I Got is You,” Wyclef’s “911,” Common’s “Come Close,” and Method Man’s “I’ll Be There for You/All I Need to Get By,” which was a platinum hit and won the two of them a Grammy Award in 1996 for Best Rap Performance By a Duo or Group.
