[Verse 1: James Young]
I hear voices from beyond the veil
They reverberate in mystery
There are shadows in my heart, oh
And they multiply in memory
And the comrades that I've lost out there
From the scattered ruins still speak to me

[Pre-Chorus: James Young]
If the flickering light of your campfire dims
The world grows smaller, it's closing in
I'm standin' here, and I want you to live

[Chorus]
(I know) These are the times we find out who we really are
This will be when a true friend stands at your side
Someone like me who wants to believe
In the days of high times and innocence
Drawing the lines and shouting back to the night
Someone like me who wants you to live

[Verse 2: James Young (with Tommy Shaw)]
And from those who've seen the light beyond
We know the end will bring tranquility
But the voices of the friends they heard
Brought them back to this reality

[Pre-Chorus: James Young]
Though the beacon of light in your life seems dim
The sun's coming up on the world we're in
There are choices here, and I want you to live

[Chorus]
(I know) These are the times we find out who we really are
This will be when a true friend stands at your side
One more like me who wants to believe
In the truth of all we experienced
To live again, to jump back into the fight
Someone like me who wants you to live

[Bridge: Tommy Shaw]
Pouring light from the sky
Portends you and I
Disappears in the night
(I still remember)

[Verse 3: James Young]
I hear voices from beyond the veil
Like a faint, unfinished symphony

[Pre-Chorus: James Young]
Though the beacon of light in your life seems dim
The sun's comin' up on the world we're in
I'm standin' here, and I want you to live

[Chorus]
(I know) These are the times we find out who we really are
This will be when a true friend stands at your side
One more like me who wants to believe
In the truth of all we experienced
To live again, to jump back into the fight
Someone like me who wants you to live

[Outro: James Young]
I want you, I want you, (I want you to live)
I want you, I want you, I want you to live
I want you to live
(I still remember)

Styx

Styx is a rock band from Chicago formed in 1970. They enjoyed great success with pop rock and hard rock songs, and became famous for their power ballads and album releases of the mid 1970s and early 80s.

The band has gone through some famously nasty internal struggles, drug problems, illnesses and deaths, but continues to perform today (with a significantly altered line-up). Tommy Shaw, from Montgomery, AL, left but returned to the band. Drummer John Panozzo developed a debilitating drinking problem and ultimately died. Dennis DeYoung developed an acute case of photosensitivity, and he left the band. They fought among themselves for control of the band name. Glen Burtnik also left and returned, this time on bass, to replace Chuck Panozzo (John’s brother), who had also left the band. (whew.)
