[Intro: Michael + (Jackson 5)]
You need it (you need it)
Like I need it (like I need it)
I need it (I need it)
Like you need it, oh (Oh)
Well (well, well, well, well)

[Verse 1: Michael + (Jackson 5)]
Seems like it was only yesterday (well)
When my mama told me don't fall in love
With the first girl that comes your way
He was charming and nice
But I took her advice and passed her by (well)
Years have passed and don't look
Like love's gonna give me a second try
Girl, the look on your face tells me you understand (well)
Could it be your love life like mine
Needs a helping hand? (well)

[Chorus: Jackson 5]
You need love like I do, don't you?
Girl, I can tell by the way you look
When I'm looking at you

[Verse 2: Michael + (Jackson 5)]
I know it ain't fit and proper
For a boy to talk this way (nope)
But I can't cope with this loneliness
Not one more doggone day
Everyday has been an uphill climb
Keeping my hopes afloat
Judging from your silence, girl
You must be in the same boat
Ain't it true now

[Chorus: Jackson 5]
You need love like I do, don't you?
Girl, I can tell by the way you look
When I'm looking at you
Well, well, well, you need love like I do, don't you?
Girl, it seems like I'm looking in the mirror
When I'm looking at you

[Verse 3: Michael + (Jackson 5)]
I can understand a person being without money (well)
But there sure ain't no reason
For a person to be without love
Listen to me now, you're a girl and I'm a guy (well)
So come on let's give love a try
Well, tell me lil' girl

[Chorus: Jackson 5]
You need love like I do, don't you?
I can tell by the way you look
When I'm looking at you

[Bridge: Jermaine]
Girl, finding true love is a dream
That everyone wants to come true
Can't you see it's up to us
To make this dream come true

[Chorus: Jermaine + (Michael) + Jackson 5]
You need love like I do, don't you? (Oh yeah)
I can tell by the way you look
When I'm looking at you (Ooh ooh)
Well, well, you need love like I do, don't you? (Oh)
'Cause I can tell by the way you look
When I'm looking at you
You need love like I do, don't you?

Ain't it true? Ain't it true?
Ain't it true? (Yeah!)

[Chorus: Jackson 5]
You need love like I do, don't you?
I can tell by the way you look
When I'm looking at you
You need love like I do, don't you?
I can tell by the way you look
When I'm looking at you
You need love like I do, don't you?
I can tell by the way you look
When I'm looking at you
You need love like I do, don't you?
I can tell by the way you look
When I'm looking at you
You need love like I do, don't you?
I can tell by the way you look
When I'm looking at you

The Jackson 5

The Jackson 5 were originally formed in 1963 under the name, The Jackson Brothers. The founding members were Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, and Marlon. Michael would join the group as the lead singer a year later, a move which pushed Jermaine to sing the backing vocals and play the lead guitar.

After participating in a series of talent shows, they entered the professional music scene in 1967, signing with Steeltown Records and releasing ten singles. In 1969, they left Steeltown Records in order to sign with Motown.

In 1975, most of the Jacksons had opted out of recording any more music for Motown, expressing desires to have creative control over their songs, as well as royalties. Learning that they were earning only 2.8% of royalties from Motown, Joe Jackson, the father and manager of the group, began to negotiate a lucrative contract with Epic records, which offered a royalty rate of 20% per record. The deal was completed in June 1975. As Motown owned the name The Jackson 5, the group simply renamed themselves The Jacksons.
