Cilla Black

Perhaps best known as a TV personality, Cilla Black was the most commercially successful female pop musician of the 1960s.

Born Priscilla Maria Veronica White in Liverpool in 1943, she changed her name after a local journalist got it wrong when reporting on her performances with local Merseybeat bands. The Beatles introduced her to Brian Epstein, who took her to George Martin and made her a star.

Internationally, her biggest hit is “You’re My World”, but her fame is mostly contained to Britain.
