McMusic (NOR)

30 albums

McMusic was a series of compilation albums with pop music. The first edition released in 1997 and was a joint venture between Sony Music and PolyGram (later Universal Music Group).

When the series was launched, the newspapers pointed out that McMusic’s record cover was confusingly similar to the competitor Absolute Music, with similar graphic design and the identical text lines “18 original top hits” and “and many more” on the cover. McMusic sold well, and two weeks after launch it sold 100,000 copies, equivalent to double platinum.

In 2009, Absolute Music and McMusic merged into Now That’s What I Call Music. Issue 1 was released on November 23, 2009
