[Verse 1: Aimee Mann & Michael Penn]
Two of us riding nowhere
Spending someone's hard-earned pay
You and me Sunday driving
Not arriving on our way back home
We're on our way back home
We're on our way home
We're going home

[Verse 2: Aimee Mann & Michael Penn]
Two of us sending postcards
Writing letters on my wall
You and me burning matches
Lifting latches on our way back home
We're on our way home
We're on our way home
We're going home

[Bridge: Aimee Mann]
You and I have memories
Longer than the road
That stretches out ahead

[Verse 3: Aimee Mann & Michael Penn]
Two of us wearing raincoats
Standing solo in the sun
You and me chasing paper
Getting nowhere on our way back home
We're on our way home
We're on our way home
We're going home

[Bridge: Aimee Mann]
You and I have memories
Longer than the road
That stretches out ahead

[Verse 4: Aimee Mann & Michael Penn]
Two of us wearing raincoats
Standing solo in the sun
You and me chasing paper
Getting nowhere on our way back home
We're on our way home
We're on our way home
We're going home

Aimee Mann

As a young girl, Aimee Mann was inspired to play the bass guitar after reading a book (that she later could not remember the title of):

It was this paperback about how to get into the rock ‘n’ roll business. It was fascinating. I didn’t know anything about music then. Out of the blue, I said I wanted to play the bass.

In 1981, she dropped out of Berklee College Of Music to join the punk band The Young Snakes. Two years later she formed the new wave rock band ‘Til Tuesday with boyfriend (and former Berklee classmate) Michael Hausman.
