[Verse 1]
Talkin' about all of the things he's gon' do to you
When he gets you home
Coming up short, making all them excuses, well
You're better off alone, mm
Think he's fire 'cause he drive a six hundred that
He don't even own, uh
Talkin' like he's the guy
He could 'bout have any girl he want

[Chorus]
He don't know nothin' 'bout it
'Bout time you found a man, yeah
He just beaten' 'round it, yeah
Girl he don't understand
What you go through, he ain't go a clue
What love really mеans to you
He don't know nothin' 'bout it
He don't know nothin' 'bout it, yeah

[Verse 2]
Talkin' 'bout all of thosе things he's goin' buy for you
Can't even get a loan (Can't even get a loan)
Runnin' 'round town frontin' like he take good care of you
But everybody knows (Everybody knows), uh
How can a guy think he fly
When he's still living at his mama's home, uh, oh
Say goodnight, ain't it time
Think it's only right that you let him go

[Chorus]
He don't know nothin' 'bout it
'Bout time you found a man, oh
He just beaten' around it
Girl he don't understand
What you go through, he ain't go a clue
What love really means to you
He don't know nothin' 'bout it
He don't know nothin' 'bout it, yeah

[Bridge]
You need a man to be strong
That will always be there
Whenever you need him
You shouldn't have to call him
A man who will be
Be right there when you fall (When you fall)
If you put your heart in his hands
Then he needs to be your friend
A friend who will listen (Oh, baby)
To all of your needs (All of your needs, yes)
If for no other reason
But to love, and to trust
And to be your everything
Something that every woman needs

[Interlude]
Oh yeah, oh
He don't know nothin' 'bout, nothin' 'bout it, oh yeah
No, say it now
He don't know nothin' 'bout it
No he don't, baby
No he don't, no he don't, no he don't, oh
He just be hangin' around it, yeah, oh baby
Yeah, you see what you need

[Chorus]
You need a man (You need a man) to be strong
That will always be there (Oh, baby)
Whenever you need him (Whenever you need him)
You shouldn't have to call him (Oh, you shouldn't have to call)
A man who will be, be right there when you fall (When you fall)
If you put your heart in his hands
Then he needs to be your friend
A friend who will listen (A friend who will listen)
To all of your needs (Every one of your needs)
If for no other reason
But to love and to trust
And to be your everything
Something that every woman needs

[Outro]
Baby, baby, baby
Get him off your mind
Get him off your head
Get him out your soul
Get him out your bed
He don't know nothin' 'bout it
Ah, yes
Yes, I will, look around
See what you got
Don't you know? Look around
See he don't know nothing
He don't know a thing, yeah, yeah, ooh
He don't know nothin' 'bout it, yeah

Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis

Superproducer duo Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis met during their teenage years at a summer camp. Jimmy had cut his teeth writing and producing for a band called Mind & Matter. Terry meanwhile was part of a rival group called Flyte Tyme which they would eventually name their production company after.

At one point, the two tried out for Prince and became members of the band The Time, but after a snowstorm caused them to miss a Time gig while they were producing tracks for The S.O.S. Band, the two were fired from the group. Fortunately, their songs for S.O.S. became smash hits, and their career as producers was off to a running start.

The two would most famously be responsible for helping shape the illustrious career of pop princess Janet Jackson from her 1986 breakthrough album Control even up to her 2015 comeback album Unbreakable.
