[Verse 1: Pebbles]
Deep in the heart
Love has many ways
Of touching your emotions
Taking control of you
And even in thought
Love can make you change
There's no way of controlling love
When it's part of you

[Pre-Chorus: Babyface]
Well, you could be a married man
With two kids and a good woman
And you could give your heart and soul
I swear it don't mean nothing
'Cause love can pull you deep into a spell
It will spin your mind around like a carousel, oh

[Chorus: Pebbles & Babyface, Pebbles, Babyface]
I'm telling you love, boy, makes things happen
You never know where it's coming from
You never know who you're gonna love
(Who you're gonna love)
I'm telling you love
Makes things happеn
(Makes it)
You never know what you'rе gonna do
(Never)
Whenever true love takes hold of you
(You)

[Verse 2: Babyface with Pebbles]
There's never a time
'Cause love will let you know
Love appears at the worst
And even the best of times
It takes over your mind
Your heart is not your own
There's no way of controlling love
It controls your life

[Pre-Chorus: Pebbles, Babyface, Both]
Well (Woo), you could be a faithful girl
With a good heart and good intentions
(Well, well)
And you could never leave your home
I swear there ain't no preventions
(No way)
'Cause love can pull you deep into a spell
It will spin your mind around like a carousel, oh

[Chorus: Pebbles & Babyface, Pebbles, Babyface]
I'm telling you love, boy, makes things happen
You never know where it's coming from
(You never know, baby)
You never know who you're gonna love
(Who you're gonna love, boy)
I'm telling you love (I never knew)
Makes things happen
(I'm telling you)
You never know what you're gonna do
(You, you, you never know)
Whenever true love takes hold of you

[Bridge: Babyface, Pebbles, Both]
There's nothing love can't make you do
When love takes hold of you
You can have the purest heart
And the finest attitude

But I swear that don't mean nothing (Nothing)
When your heart's under the spell
It will spin your mind around like a carousel, oh, oh

[Chorus: Pebbles & Babyface, Pebbles, Babyface]
I'm telling you love makes things happen
(Love, love, love, love)
You never know where it's coming from
(Where it's coming from now)
You never know who you're gonna love
(Who you're gonna love now)
I'm telling you love (Sweet love, sweet love)
Makes things happen (Love)
You never know what you're gonna do
(What you're gonna do now)
Whenever true love takes hold of you (Ah baby)

[Outro: Pebbles & Babyface, Pebbles, Babyface]
You never know
You never know it
You never know
You're never gonna know it, baby, ooh
Who you're gonna love
Who you're gonna love, baby
You never know
You never know it
You never know
You're never gonna know it
Ah baby
You never know
You never know it
You never know
You never, never, never, never, never know
No, no, no, no
You never know
You never know
You never know it
You never know
You never, never, never, never, never know
No, no, no, no
You never know

Pebbles

Pebbles (born Perri McKissack on August 29, 1964) is a singer-songwriter from the Bay Area. She got her start as a back-up singer for the Vallejo-based group Con Funk Shun in the early 1980s before breaking through with her self-titled debut album in 1987. Her first big single from the album was the L.A. Reid & Babyface-produced hit “Girlfriend,” which hit #1 on the R&B Singles chart and peaked at #5 on the pop chart. She followed that up with her biggest single “Mercedes Boy,” which also topped the R&B Singles chart while peaking at #2 on both the Billboard Hot 100 & Dance charts.

Her 1990 sophomore album Always was primarily written and produced by L.A. & Face. The album featured the #1 R&B singles “Giving You the Benefit” and her duet with Babyface “Love Makes Things Happen” as well as the Top 5 R&B hit “Backyard” with Salt-N-Pepa. On a personal note, R&B singer Cherrelle is her cousin and she was featured on the title track along with Johnny Gill.

Prior to the release of Always, Pebbles and L.A. Reid married in 1989. Following the release of that album, she began managing TLC under her Pebbitone company while they signed to LaFace Records. TLC filed for bankruptcy in 1995 and cited mismanagement by Pebbles as a source of their financial issues. This situation took a toll on her marriage to L.A. Reid and he filed for divorced the same year.
